I just picked up my truck on Saturday and have been reading the forums for the last year. We plan on taking some road trips and I want to get a tonneau cover that is secure and mostly waterproof. After reading posts on this topic I’m leaning toward the BAK x4s. I prefer the hard roll up over the trifold. I was hoping to get some more reviews on the x4s and did you also get the tailgate seal.
Thanks

Been using Access Original roll up cover(www.accesscover.com). Held firm in very strong winds and does not leak. Two years in and holding up quite nicely. Suggest checking it out.

I love my x4s. Looks great and functions as designed. There is a small amount of water intrusion around the side of the tailgate but I plan to install a seal around this area, which should take care of the problem.

I particularly like the ease of operation.

I have been using the BAK XS4 for about 6 months. I planned on getting aftermarket SIBL, so slapped it on with the elevate racks just to see how it looks. No seals, just bolted on. To date, 6 months later, I haven't pulled the trigger on the SIBL and have not removed the XS4. Very little water intrusion at all, even with no seals.

The XS4 allows me to put 4 Home Depot 27-gallon containers under the cover and 4 on top, under the elevate racks. A Thule rocket box sits on top of the racks, mounted directly on the elevate top bars. Amazingly amount of storage. Will likely approach the payload capacity when camping with the family.

In summary, the XS4 with elevate system is awesome.

Doesn't seem like the Access covers are hard roll-ups or am I missing something? I would think for security OP would want a hard roll up

Mine leaks some at the tailgate end. I've tried to do a lot of sealing in that area, with little success, so I've pretty much given up on that. Some water will get in in heavy storms. Not a lot, your stuff will stay dry unless it's right up against the tailgate.

Pretty good cover, and I don't have regrets. But for the money, I may have looked elsewhere if I was doing it all over again.

Their customer service is excellent too

I tried the BAK Revolver X4s in April '23 but it was about 5/16" too wide to fit with the Truxedo "Elevate" T-slot rails I needed for my ladder rack, despite the fact that BAK claims both products will play together. Perhaps they've tuned their dimensions since then. The experience taught me that I really do not want any tonneau cover that uses custom extruded mounting rails. I've found that I actually reach over the side into the bed quite a lot, and tonneau mounting rails get in the way. Being a thin aluminum extrusion, they're also quite fragile. They could very easily get damaged by cargo, which would then preventing the tonneau from closing properly. In addition, the X4s latch system has an actuator lever on each side that extends out into the bed by the tailgate and was annoyingly in the way. At this point, I'm searching for a hard folding tonneau that does not require rails and is no more than 53" wide (to fit between my T-slot rails) but I doubt I will find one. If anyone knows of such a beast, please comment. I may have to DIY using aluminum tread plate...

As someone who buys the cheap trifold for $160.00 off Amazon, I better keep my opinions to myself. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Imagine calling $160.00 for a little 4 1/2 foot tonneau cheap? Jeez. :sneaky:
