Do you really need all those songs available for play all the time? What if you split them across a couple of flash drives. Would only having 5,000 available at a time be a real problem? 😄

Man give us old folks a break, when I got my last car three vehicles ago, it no longer had a cassette player so I donated my cassette collection (350+ tapes but over a 1000 albums) to the "Blind Society" these people love cassettes because the format platform have buttons that are very obvious and they do not need help, other than to put a braille stamp on the tape to tell them what to expect to hear. I also have over a 1000 CDs (I recorded most to listen in my older cars) and would love to listen to them, but I'll be damned if I will pay for the licensing twice. We need a simple "plug n' play" device to make our ancient musical dreams come to fruition. Remember, we invented all the tech that got you to this point and all the real rock 'n roll"!

As far as loading a large library of mp3 music files onto a good quality usb flash drive (brand new 400MB/s 128GB SAMSUNG FIT Plus 3.1 flash drive in my case) for playback from the standard non-Sync 3 entertainment system (XLT in my case), I have given it a try. Unfortunately, my experience has been VERY disappointing.

Reasons: 1.) My library consists of approximately 12,000 songs, but the XLT's standard non-Sync 3 infotainment system clearly limits the number of files at an even 10,000 files. I have noticed somewhere that Sync 3 has a 15,000 file limit, but it clearly seems the non-Sync 3 limitation is 10,000 files. 2.) The indexing process takes "forever". Every time you start to access the files on the usb drive the files require indexing. I haven't timed it, but it takes AT LEAST 20-30 minutes for the indexing process to index all 10,000 (max) files - maybe longer. 3.) Once FINALLY indexed, browsing and selecting music to play is VERY slow and "unfriendly".

Given the other options, the 10,000 file limit alone is likely a "show-stopper" for me, but the overall performance from USB seems to totally suck - at least for a large library of mp3 files. I can't really think of anything positive to point out.

Unless there's some future update that drastically improves capabilities and performance, it sure appears that I won't be using the USB for my music playback. I'll continue to play music from my full ~12,000 song library using either Android Auto (AA wireless adapter w/android phone using free Musicolet music player app) or my iPod Classic (connected via bluetooth transmitter in headphone jack and bluetooth FM transmitter in 12V outlet). Using bluetooth (i.e., zero cords) these two solutions perform great and are easily "elegant" enough for me. The iPod Classic remains my favorite whenever I want to use its iTunes Genius ability to create and play from impressive 25-song playlists that can be based off of a song of my choice.
JT --- the kids just do not understand what a real record collection IS! They like and listen to 1 maybe 2 songs at a time and then lose concentration. Ok maybe they can sustain a 12 songs playlist but (looks like 1-2) we have 50–70-year collective knowledge and they can't remember the lyrics to "Happy Birthday". We have to invent more shit, that is what needs to happen, or someone sends us a LINK, to our million-dollar idea and we forego the payday.

The "kids" of today will never know how cool it was to go to a record store, buy an album with an artistic cover and sometimes liner notes with lyrics. Then put it on the turntable and enjoy! Many albums had a theme that tied all the songs together and could only be experienced if you played the entire record in sequence. Downloading files just isn't the same

The digital age is wonderful…. Having your entire music collection in your pocket and backed up at home is the best
Twice I had 50+ CDs stolen from my car (broken window and radio taken both times)
I do miss going into the record store and seeing what the new music was (and listening stations to sample the new music)
I still can’t wrap my head around wanting to deal with CDs in the car…. Especially if it’s a non-integrated solution

Yes, I will concede that having your entire collection on a flashdrive is pretty nice and the space savings for storage is great too. The ease of backup is great too not to mention no scratches! 😄

That would be all well and good if Ford didn't put that idiotic "motion block" on the touch screen so you can't change to any other albums you have but what is on the screen at the time which is about 5. I have a collection of about 600 CD's which I can download to a USB flash drive, but oh well tough luck as I can not scroll through the album list if I'm driving. Drove about 8 hours down to Maryland this week but had to listen to the same album over and over until I stopped.

This will probably be the last Ford I buy if they are going to put that motion block crap on thier audio systems.

I cannot imagine a scenario in modern times where you would spontaneously have a new CD you want to listen to. Just convert your CD library to MP3s and put them all on a flash drive. Stick the flash drive in the usb port and pick the album you want to listen to.
Yup, that's the option. I just bought a new CD last night of a great group I saw at a coffeehouse.

I too, still occasionally buy a CD from a band that's selling their merch at a local bar/coffeehouse. But I usually only play it once - and that's right before I also rip it to MP3 for playing in the house, earbuds or car, via the phone or other digital player. True, one can usually just download the album online and the artist gets part of the cost. But I prefer to buy it directly from them - and usually with a tip. More personal that way.

@Chicolini, I have bought 33 & 45 rpm vinyl records, cassettes and CDs in the past (happy to say I never owned an 8-track). I've had cassette players and CD players in cars. But it's impossible to get a factory cassette player now, and becoming impossible to get a factory CD player in most all vehicles. Times and formats change and most people have moved on from CDs. Vinyl once again outsells CDs, for people who collect music on physical media. But you can't easily play vinyl in a moving vehicle.

I hope the solution to your music dilemma is working for you.

Well, we do what we must. Whining is a fruitless option. That little cubby holds thumb drives nicely.

I have put multiple CDs, each in its own folder, on a single thumb drive. The system will play songs from all the folders/albums randomly if I choose, but I can't seem to choose and stay just within one folder/album. Any suggestions on how to better pick what I want while listening to mp3s from a thumb drive?

I miss my CD player! I would like to buy a portable CD player that can connect to the Maverick by BlueTooth or USB.

Has anyone else done this successfully?
Sorry you dont live closer ☹. I have an amazing Portable player that I couldnt bear to throw out the past 10 years because it functions great but is otherwise retired. You'd be a perfect candidate to continue its useful life.
