I would do what exranger said. Go and tell then they forgot to put it back on. They may have 10 or 20 laying around from the other oil changes that they did.

Or at the very least, forgot to put everything back on after service.

Two weeks or so after dealer completed oil change, I looked under the truck for the first time.

The aerodynamic / splash guard is missing!!!

So I'm taking a poll:

Chew the dealership out on Monday and demand a replacement?

Or

With all the hokey pokey engine fire shenanigans and flimsy felt paper construction, consider myself better off without it. Will make future oil changes NOT done at this dealer much easier.

I really don't know how to feel about this. 😐
File a police report. Hire a lawyer to file a lawsuit.

My 2015 Chrysler 200 still has them on it, it also has cutouts for the oil drain plug and filter

Couple years back I had my 2014 Focus serviced at a local dealership.
2 months later I realized they never put my engine over back on!
Dont even wanna say what happened after that I get so angry; they didn’t do the right thing 😡

I'll be making them reattach it.
They took it off.

I think having it is probably better than not. It's probably worth 0.5 MPG but keeping the bottom components clean has a lot of merit.

Just another reason why I don't let anyone touch my vehicles unless absolutely necessary. I would definitely call and ask tho.
I agree, that is why I hate recalls. I have no choice with recalls, but everything else I do myself.

I would ask for a new set. Just for the simple fact of the inconvenience that it caused you. Ask for a new set, I would.

I will bet that they didn’t put them back on. I have had some experiences like that with the local Jeep dealer. Lost wheel lock key etc.
I would go back and take the service manager out and to the parking lot and show him.
Because of the 35% reduction in the workforce there is definitely a lack of experience.
The tech probably gets beat to turn as many vehicles as possible. As the expression goes “take your time we’re in a hurry” would be a better way to do things.
Just make sure that they don’t try to make you pay for their screw up.
They are hiring kids as Service Managers…

Dang, now I have to take pictures underneath before taking my wife’s in for the first oil. The service manager (director) is at my dealership a solid guy, no BS from him.

what is this top grade BS drama post? They forgot to put the plastic shield back - that happens. You call them back and tell them, they fix it - that's what normal people do. They do hundreds of oil changes a day, a lot of cars have those shields that must be removed, at the end of the day when they are cleaning up you think they would remember which one that shield belongs to? They toss it in the corner and wait for someone to call about it.

OP didn't bother calling them for TWO WEEKS thinking that they will somehow remember, and is posting here instead about how a dealer "stole" his parts.

It's this exact BS that causes EVERYONE who works in services of any kind to assume the customer is a Karen who rode the short bus.

Humans make mistakes, you work with them and they fix those mistakes.

They forgot to reinstall it. Call them, let them know, and they will find it or get another one. Happened a couple times with my previous Escape.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa....... 😭

Cry why don't you.

I didn't wait 2 weeks to call.
I called 30 minutes after discovering their mistake. How often do you crawl under your cars and trucks anyway?

THEY had 2 weeks to discover a "spare" panel laying around with no owner.

Full shame is on them.

The problem with this whole scenario is that you shouldn't have to make sure your vehicle was put back together properly. A single mother or elderly person isn't gonna roll under a truck to make sure stuff is done right.

The expectation is that is is done right.

The tech probably does this crap all the time and so do many others. A cover was thrown away on my wife's Hyundai after a service probably for the same reason.

It sucks but if you want something done right you have to either do it yourself or stand over them like a 5 year old is doing it.
