Shouldn't be an issue at all with the hybrid. I live in a hilly/mountainous area and routinely drive down long grades. The "downhill" dash icon illuminates frequently and definitely keeps the downhill speed in check on long grades.Looong downhill braking into a fresh rain puddle= WARPED ROTORS!!!
You don't need a hybrid to get 100K out of brake pads. I got 125K out of the fronts and 190K out of the back brake pads on a 2012 Focus. Just don't tailgate. That makes all the difference.Shouldn't be an issue at all with the hybrid. I live in a hilly/mountainous area and routinely drive down long grades. Whatever happened to the promise of 100,000 mile brakes with a hybrid?![]()
Interesting! Thanks for the added info here … something I need to keep an eye on, just that creaking, clunking noise is driving me nuts at every damn stop. I’m having a buddy of mine check it out this weekend for a different point of view but if it is only crappy pads/rotors I will use them more until it annoys me enough to pick up some ceramic and slotted rotors.Yea it's pretty well known across the Mavericks, Escapes and Bronco Sports.
Not just the grabby braking system, but they used some really cheap stuff on these models and that just adds to it. I'm replacing both rotors and pads here soon and this is one thing I don't want covered by the warranty, because they will just use the same junk. Plus, I like doing this kind of work
I had issues on my Escape and noticed there was a divot being created on both rear pads, as well as the grabby brakes at low/slowing speeds, so I knew what to expect on the Maverick. Anyone who is skeptical, just have the dealer fix it under warranty. No reason they should deny new pads at the very least.
Yea... nobody should ever have any issues by things covered in TSB's... C'mon man. Stuff happens.
every vehicle is different, sometimes very different. Different pads, different rotor hardness. Different pad thickness when new, different vehicle weight.....You don't need a hybrid to get 100K out of brake pads. I got 125K out of the fronts and 190K out of the back brake pads on a 2012 Focus. Add driving style to that list. Take the two footed (one on the gas, one on the brake) for example. Until I trained the wife she could wear out front brakes in 5K miles.every vehicle is different, sometimes very different. Different pads, different rotor hardness. Sounds good! It happens. Of course, judging by everyone's comments it never happens... so take it with a grain of salt. If you wanted to DIY it, the rotors they offer for the Maverick on Rock Auto have the spray on coating around the inner sections to avoid rusting and are not much more than the stock rotors.Update here guys, after the new brake pads (front) and machined rotors, I was still having noise. Went in again and they said the rotors are crap and have bad hot spots and pitting. All are being replaced under warranty, they just have to be ordered.
I’ve never had brake noise like this before, or hot spots, pitting, etc. nearly this fast either. Averaging 41mpg, mostly suburbs/city, some highway rides to the lake. I’m chalking it up as issues with the rotors and pads themselves. With my Taurus I would wait for a deal on pads/rotors and they were never top of the line, put them on myself and never these issues. Let’s see how these replacements go!How are you driving the truck? I have 30k miles on 90% city driving in extreme heat here in PHX. I usually cut through pads pretty fast on most cars in this duty cycle but have none of the issues you speak of with mine. My brakes are still nowhere close to needing service.
Thanks for the tip! With these being replaced under warranty im going to see how it works out. If I continue to have issues, I will DIY with some better Rock Auto ones for sure.Sounds good! At least in the past rotors are barely warped in order to move the pads away from the rotor when you let up on the brake and I have known of rotors too warped from the factory that caused a shuddering when stopping, but to just machined warped rotors on warranty? I would think that should not be and instead they should be replaced!Anyone having any issues with the factory brake pads and rotors? I just got back from the dealership and my front brake pads cracked and rotors were warped. They machined the rotors and replaced the brake pads under warranty, but said to keep an eye on it. 9k miles hybrid xlt, should I push to have the rotors and all brake pads replaced? It is my first new vehicle, but it seems crazy to have this from a brand new vehicle from the factory.
They replaced the front pads, machined the rotors, but that didn’t help. They told me to keep an eye on it and they are now replacing all 4 rotors next week. According to the tech, the rotors in the back look much worse than last time.At least in the past rotors are barely warped in order to move the pads away from the rotor when you let up on the brake and I have known of rotors too warped from the factory that caused a shuddering when stopping, but to just machined warped rotors on warranty? Excellent! Probably quality control problem and they were not within tolerances. They replaced the front pads, machined the rotors, but that didn’t help.
