Hey all,

I was unsure what to search for in the search bar; so if this has been covered, could you put the link in your reply to help. Thank you.

I am looking for a way to hide some cables for a wireless charging pad and also the wireless dongle for my carplay. I have one USB in the front console but need to plug in multiple USBs; however, I do not want loads of cables plugged into this outlet for aesthetics. I will also need to retain the functionality of wireless carplay too. (Is this the only USB that you can use for wired Carplay?)

I there a way to tap into this with some sort of multi-adapter with more usb ports that I can hide behind the dash?

Thank you all in advance.

You can utilize a splitter that has a female Mini USB (not Micro) and at least one male Mini USB to split the connection for the USB-A port. Most splitter cables only support data on one cable leg so you will need to pay attention to which if you're going to be plugging in a wireless adapter.

Here's showing the concept.

Power output may also not be ideal for piggybacking a wireless charging pad off of. You would probably be better tapping that off a full 12V power source.

Do you need them for power? Cigarette lighter power strips are fairly cheap.... tuck it up under the dash with 2sided tape?

Thanks again. Can I possibly pick your brain further?

I have found these online, would it be possible to use the splitter and one of these adapters?

1. Plug the male (Ford Part) into the female micro USB splitter
(Mini USB 1 Female to 2 Mini USB Male Y Splitter Charging Cable)

2. Plug one of the splitter mini USB into the adapter (USB 2.0 A Male to USB B Mini 5 Pin Female Adapter) and then into the Carplay dongle

3. Then plug the final splitter mini USB into the OEM console USB

Not sure if that makes sense or not - maybe I am over thinking it?

Again, you need to verify that one leg is capable of transferring data. Most are charging only.

Edit: Honestly, I'm not sure anyone really makes one that supports data in the Mini USB format. You might need to resort to using adapters on a USB-A and/or Micro USB cable.

Something I did on my previous Tacoma was spliced a USB hub into the 12v adapter behind the console. Everything stayed hidden. No data though.

Don't know if this will do but perhaps you could cobble something together such as I did on the cheap to provide a dedicated courtesy light for the center console tray. Didn't want to use a data port for something which requires only current.

Not invisible but it is surreptitious when frontally viewed from a normal seated position.

While it's not completely hidden, I used the 12v outlet at the back of the console to power my dash cam (I, too, hate the sight of exposed wires and cables). Message me if you want to know where it goes from there.

I think I am going to go with this route for more power as I can add a circuit and not interrupt the current set up on the cigarette lighter socket.

The cables came in today for the USB splitter..... we will see it that works or not.
