Apologies for the long winded question for you.

1. I bought a 2022 Ford maverick Lariat Lux

2. It did not have a spare key, but I did set up my FordPass/MyKey

3. Now the restrictions for volume and speed are locked and I can’t change them without a second key.

The dealer mentioned in passing I would need to order 2 keys additional keys (3 keys total) now to presumably set up another as administrator. Does that sound right, and programming the news keys work the same way as above?
No you should only have to buy and have programmed one additional new key when this one is programmed in it would be the administrator and not under my key control - at least that's how all the other Fords have been set up. We make a bunch of additional keys for people that turn that feature on and only have one key.

Do you have two working keys with which to program a new one? If not, the dealer should be able to fix their mistake...
I have two keys, but they can't seem to re-program the original key. I followed the process that Redneck laid out so I'm trying to figure out if it's softlocked out or if I'm messing up somewhere.

You need 2 programmed (working) keys to program a 3rd if that option still works. If you only have 1 working key, you need a dealer (or perhaps a locksmith with the right software) to hook up their laptop and manually reprogram in the keys.

Great info. What would you say is a reasonable rate for a locksmith to charge to cut the key? Without any expecation of them programming it for the customer.
Depends on where you’re located. On my area, almost as much as the truck. ☹

There has been many questions on the keys for our beloved trucks and as a locksmith I can say if you lose all your keys you will more than likely have to tow it back to the dealer until our software is updated. HOWEVER I have confirmed on board programming works if you have the original two keys ( two programmed keys ) - you can program them yourself - that has been mentioned here before. Do this NOW !!! before you loose one of the two keys LOL.

On the XL or XLT trucks you can either add a flip remote or just a standard key ( possibly you might want to add two cheaper keys as a backup ) On the Lariat only the fob will work however the emergency key is not required. I thought I would put links to which keys to purchase and you can take them to a local locksmith just to have cut - as long as you maintain two extra you are in good shape adding in the future.

XL and XLT Keys - I have posted multiple links in case one is out of stock -
Remote headed Keys - $23.99-https://amzn.to/40xtAk7 or $29.95 https://amzn.to/3RpQJAH or $23.99 https://amzn.to/3WVGxAX

If yours has a remote start it would be this key - 49.99- https://amzn.to/3wNgDVG 89.95 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/3jsaBq7 45.29 - https://amzn.to/3WUcmdl

remote.jpg

Plastic Headed Keys -
16.95 for 2 - https://amzn.to/3HNZe5h 43.21 Ford Factory Blank ( same Chip ) https://amzn.to/3jklzOD If you are wanting to do a "hide-a-key" this one is the one to use due to it being waterproof.

To program you insert the existing first key, turn on ignition, count to three, take out put in existing second key turn on ignition - count to three - take new third key - turn on ignition - leave on - you should hear a chirp and a message key was successful.

For the Lariat -
58.95 - https://amzn.to/3XT89b7 109.95 - 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/40m014U 37.95 - https://amzn.to/3XaDs0h For the Fob to work / be programmed it doesn't matter if the key is cut or not - it only opens the door if the battery is completely dead.

prox.jpg

If your Fob does not have remote start for the 2023 Lariat it is this one - 38.99 - https://amzn.to/40ihWsZ

nostart_.jpg

To program - open center console. Pull up felt cover - place first existing fob in depression - push start button ( without foot on brake ) ignition comes on- count to 5 - remove fob - push ignition off - put second existing fob in depression - push ignition on - count to five - remove fob - push ignition off. take new fob - put in depression push AND HOLD start button down - you should hear chirp and message - key programming successful.

All in all pretty simple procedures and a few dollars and effort now can save you hundreds later !
Thank you for spending the considerable time and effort to share that wealth of information. I have a couple questions for a locksmith. My research indicates that the key fobs you suggested are Ford's 164-R8130 (StratTec #5923667) "Side-Mill" blanks, while the ideal part is the newer Ford #164-R8269 (StratTec #5939651) "Center-Mill" blank. Comparing the blade dimensions of the center-mill keys delivered with my '23 XLT hybrid to the side-mill blank I just bought, I see that they are almost but not quite identical. The latter is just 0.0016" thinner and 0.0009" wider below the shoulder. However, the side-mill key is tapered at the tip while the center-mill one is not. I can envision how it could be possible (but unlikely) that this taper could cause jamming problems because it might not correctly engage the lock wafer pins early enough during key insertion. Can you comment on whether this is a valid concern in the real world, and also whether the remotes / transponders in these two keys are identical? This would really help me out.

Evidently yours didn't have the Lux Package ? Dang didnt even know they used these on the Lariat - Is yours a 22 or 23 ? The Fobs without remote start are a different frequency than the remote start ones. yours is this one - https://amzn.to/3kZfyr9

Bought this one on Amazon, it has design flaw. See "Replacement Lariat Fob without remote start".

I purchased some blanks from your links but not finding a place to get them cut. Ace hardware told me they could do it, but when I took them in, they told me the cut was too narrow for their machine.

What key code is needed? You only need a picture? Not an original key? Thanks

I can't seem to get the key code. I have an XL Hybrid.

Put in first key and turn ignition. Count to three. Then remove and put in second key and turn. But no key code is displayed.

You can get the key code from the dealer as long as you have proof of ownership

I purchased the fob from this link and I was able to add it using my two original keys and your instructions, took two tries, the first time I counted to 5 with the first two keys but nothing happened when I held the button with the new key in place. However, I tried again and only counted to 3 and the new key was added successfully.

My question now is:
The new key works when using the buttons to lock/unlock and even to start and drive the truck, but the Intelligent Access feature doesn't seem to work at all when touching the handle to lock or unlock. Is this a limitation of these cheap fobs or am I missing something that needs activated for the new key to work with Intelligent Access?

Thanks for all the info!
