I get very uneasy around trucks with very deep and wide wheels replacing the stock ones. Saw one on the side of the interstate with the whole right front tire/wheel/rotor/caliper and part of the suspension laying on the ground. The stress that puts on everything apparently did it in.
You could definitely overdo it. I have no doubt. As old Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does."

On my truck, the aftermarket Fifteen 52 Traverse MX wheels are actually factory size/spec. So, any weight difference should be negligible.

As for the tires, the 245/70/17 Firestone Destination AT2s I am running are listed at 34.759 pounds per tire on the official Firestone website. So, how does that compare to the "factory" tires offered by Ford?

Well, if you upgrade to the 235/65/17 Falken Wildpeak AT Trails (standard on Tremor and optional on others), they are listed at 35.1 pounds on the Falken website -- actually a bit HEAVIER than the tires I am running.

And the 225/76/17 Pirelli Scorpion ATRs that come standard on FX4 models doesn't actually have a listed weight on the Pirelli website. A Google search says 31 pounds, give or take, depending on which site you are looking at.

Point is, as a vehicle owner I do try to take care of my stuff and actually pay attention to this sort of thing when making decisions. My wheel/tire setup is comparable to OEM/stock offerings from Ford. To me, it's perfectly reasonable.

Anyone else is free to disagree. That's why some folks won't go an ounce or an inch out of factory spec on anything, while others will modify the pinch welds on their trucks and run 33s or 35s. It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.

Would it make a difference if you kept the stock rims and put a bigger tire on them?

I put 245/65/17 Cooper Discover ATs on my stock FX4 wheels prior to installing the aftermarket wheels/tires.

Makes no difference. As I said, my aftermarket wheels are the same size/spec as OEM wheels. You can go bigger, as long as they are 17-inch tires they will fit on the rims, within reason.

Hell yes it would void the warranty! They will use any excuse to not cover anything remotely connected to any modification..

245/65R17 would be the safest biggest option. And sure, if they can somehow magically prove a component went out prematurely due to increased angles after adding bigger tires - it can void the warranty - but I don't know very many mechanics who are going to make a fuss over something like 245/65R17's compared to the stock 225/235/65R's these trucks come with. Once you start getting up there in the 70R's, then you are pushing it. Not hard to blame a premature detonation on suspension or half shaft issues when you go 2" taller than stock. For example - people running 255/70R17's... that's roughly 2" taller alone and then they add 2" spacer lifts. That's called a warranty voider. Keep in mind, this is a lower unibody design, not a body on frame truck. Your driveline suffers more in the long run than your suspension angles do in the short run.

That said... you do you. Also, to those reading who will get offended by this post - I don't care. I still love you even if you are a disaster :poop:
I have 255/65R17s. Adds 3/4” to the overall height of the truck. They fit fine, no lift needed.

It really depends on the dealer and how much they like you, or not.

Yeah I suppose that's true. I bought a '22 and a '23 from my local dealer and I'll bet you the only person that MIGHT recognize me would maybe be my salesman. So I don't think they would have any likes or dislikes toward me.

Stealerships will try to claim a completely bone stock vehicle doesn't qualify for warranty coverage, let's be real.
