Can I use a Fordpass Rewards Visa for my down payment to collect the reward points and then just pay it off?
The nice lady I was chatting with on the Ford site did not know.

It might be worth applying for one if so.

Thanks

It's really up to your dealer. Some said no, others were willing to do "up to $X,000"

I cannot speak to the FordPass Visa specifically, but the short answer is it depends on the dealership. Some will take credit cards for down payments and some will not. The ones who will accept credit cards typically have a limit (Highest I have encountered was $10k).

Cool, looks like I'll be checking with the dealer. It might be a decent way to get free stuff, floormats or what have you.

I called the rep from Fordpass Reward Visa. She advised me to APPLY for the credit card AT TIME of sale of your truck. That way you can use your card right away and don't have to wait for a few weeks to receive your card. Hopefully, your dealership accepts credit cards for a downpayment.

I applied and mine was delivered about 6-7 days later. I used it for the deposit and hope to use what I can on purchase.

Chapman is only allowing 2500. I find it ridiculous you can't do more since it's a Ford visa. I could understand with any other card but the one Ford puts its name on shouldn't have a limit for a purchase

Ford touts using it toward the purchase on the site:
https://www.ford.com/support/fordpass/fordpass-rewards/credit-card

But it is still up to the dealer at the end of the day. If your dealership won't, find another. I know they try to avoid it because "fees", but you can show them the page in the link and say "Ford says I can, so let me find a dealer who will honor it." and head out.

Because Visa and the issuing bank are taking "vig" on the transaction, so the dealer is getting less than the full down payment. For VISA branded cards, this is typically between 1.3% and 2.55%.

I don't know offhand if Ford credit or some other related entity is the issuing bank for the Ford Pass Rewards card (and I am too lazy to research). Some of that take is in effect rebated to the purchaser in the form of rewards points.

Now the solution might be that Ford, to promote usage of its card by giving the dealer a rebate of some sort on new car/truck purchases. Nor am I sure (again too lazy to research) whether that is problematic in terms of state laws or even VISA's agreements.

Heck,, if allowed I would buy the entire thing on a credit card, but thanks for posting that Chapman is allowing up to $2500.

I know how visa and the vig works.

If Ford wants to have a card then they need to communicate with dealers to let them use as much of it as they want in their dealership.

You make a valid point for other cards but doesn't make sense when it's their own card.

Ford (to dealer): We want to encourage the use of the Ford Pass card.
Dealer(to Ford): Will you reimburse us for the merchant fee assessed on credit card purchases?
Ford: Um, no, but we really want to encourage the use of the ....
...

p.s. I'm in agreement with you, it would be nice to have (I don't have a Ford Visa but would get one).

So, question, as I'm new to all of this Ford Pass stuff and the Ford Rewards. If I'm putting down X amount as a down payment, do you get extra rewards points if you use the Ford Visa card? Basically, my down payment would get me more, by using the card, rather than just cutting a check?

I can't get a clarification if I will get more points with the card as opposed to a check. If yes, I would apply for one for sure, then I will have it for scheduled service work also, I might as well just get one for that alone.

I sent a message to Granger Ford in Iowa, they will accept up to $2000 on a CC for a downpayment.

Big shoutout to Chip at Granger Ford, he has always been very responsive when ever I had a question come up. I'm am hoping the purchase process goes as smooth.

What does having a Ford Pass Visa have to do with Ford Pass?

Can someone explain what being a member(?) of Ford Pass involves? Is there a benefit. I read something about the remote start function being part of Ford Pass but am clueless, more or less.
