Does it really make much difference in MPG? I read you have to switch to it each time you start up.

Much is subjective, and yes the eco must be selected each time you start the truck. I think the biggest difference is how you drive. If you are easy on the accelerator, you will get better mileage and if you stand on it... worse mileage. I've read that Eco is worth a mile or two per gallon, but I forget it once in a while and I cannot see a big difference.

I have accidentally put the selector on tow or slippery and I can hear the engine screaming.

I've seen about a 1-2 mpg bump in highway driving in Eco mode. I dislike the heavy regeneration when I'm in town so I tend to leave it normal drive mode and it allows for more coasting and easier transition from charge/electric to Hybrid, in my opinion. We do have some hyper milers on this forum though that swear by slippery mode but the super soft brakes make me feel uneasy in that mode.

I just got my Maverick hybrid. My first tank of gas was 35.4 MPG without eco mode (I do a lot of highway driving in Florida.) I started using eco mode on my recent fill up and I’m getting 37.5 MPG combined. Eco does seem to make the throttle less response so if you have a heavy foot, you may not like it. I just have to remember to turn it on every trip.

I’ve found it does add a couple miles both in city and on my monthly trips. I stay in eco mode and don’t seem to have to switch to every time. Maybe that’s a Lariat thing? I wonder if you have to switch to eco in the 2023s?

Eco mode definitely helps my mpg a bit, although most likely it's mainly due to being a huge cruise control fan, and it's much less aggressive getting to the preset speed in eco than normal. I also really like the extra regen feel on off throttle.

" easy on the accelerator "When I have traffic behind me it is almost impossible to keep within the blue box. I usually can build up some charge on the back streets, then Try to keep it in electric as much as I can. For me, even getting 42 mpg..I have to work at it. Maybe the Hybrid was designed for retired people...just an errant thought. :)

Nope! Just put it in Sport!!! and Step on it! - lol, well it does make a little difference. I baby my truck and tried ECO - changed the throttle response, and in the city was not quick enough to get out of people's way so I tried normal mode. Seems best for all around driving in Normal mode with slightly less MPG like 2 MPG than in Eco. But then there's "put a smile on my face" Sport mode! I drop maybe 3 mpg from ECO but Wow! It's quick and responsive, especially in city traffic. ( XLT hybrid.)

Three (3) things seem to affect MPG more than any other. .. I get 38 MPG over thousands of miles... I get 50+ MPG on some stop and go highway trips 40 miles between cities. I get 33 MPG on the highway at 85 MPH

So SPEED - kills mpg. Keep it to 55 and you will almost always get 42 MPG on the highway

So next is Temperature. in Winter I lose 4 MPG for the heater and other systems that need to warm up. 65 degrees in Spring is the sweet spot. I get 43 mpg without even trying - air conditioner off.

Last is my foot. If I jumpstart and stop I will drop MPG, But it's less my foot and more about Speed and Temperature.

I have a Lariat Hybrid, and my truck is always in Eco Mode when I start up. My dealer must of set it up some way. I have used slippery to see if I could get better MPG, but unless I was going on a long trip on a highway, I never select another mode. I'm always around 42 mpg that's good enough for me.

I just played with this setting. Dont know about MPG yet, but what I ahve found that it typically starts in NORMAL mode each time you start. You need to change it to ECO manually. You may be able to change the default setting to ECO, so if anyone knows that, please share

Have you compared fuel type regular vs premium yet?

Yes... to be honest MPG does not seem to be affected by Octane. But I did not do any Scientific testing.

I will tell you that the hybrid runs much smoother on the Ultra - 93 oct. I know I will get a lot of push back on this but, my truck suffers from the "shudder" problem where, when the engine shuts off the drive system when slowing down and regenerating experiences a drive train shudder. I have found this is because the engine is not shutting down correctly it is stumbling. Well in short the higher fuel Octane improves this situation, much less noticeable. So to your question, no I don't think the fuel type really affects the gas mileage, but it does improve the driving experience in my XLT Hybrid.

Yes, I have a tank full of premium in mine now. I also notice it seem to run smoother after I filled up with 91 octane at Costco last week.
