In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed that it will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity in its cars. This is in response to a question connected to GM's announcement to drop both in the future.

Farley's answer offers more insight, as well. He acknowledged that there are two camps in the in-car software battle: Tesla and GM, and then everyone else. Ford is with everyone else.

However, the Blue Oval chief emphasized that the first software shipped with the vehicle for customers is not for the interior digital experience, but is actually for safety-critical functions such as partial autonomy, security, and productivity. Farley also added that interior experience is important, but there's going to be a lot more going on inside a car beyond phones. He believes that the relationship between the customer and the "content" should not be disrupted – in contrast to what Tesla and GM want to happen, to have complete control over the interior experience.

CarPlay is my favorite feature of the Maverick....amazingly simple and intuitive to use and so effective with Google Maps and a flash drive for music. A friends $50K Lexus did not even have CarPlay as an option.

CarPlay has to save Ford a bunch of money...It's mostly a small software license fee and eliminates Ford's costs of a GPS unit, CD drive, and provides access to many internet tools.

Might be worth checking with your Ford Service...my screen had a very minor corrosion on a cable connection that killed the display randomly. Service cleaned off the corrosion and for 18 months of use I've had no failures since. That has been my only warranty issue. The Maverick CarPlay does seem to work best with APPLE’S IPhones IOS and Google Maps. Most people reporting issues seem to be on Android devices.

I used the bluetooth connection briefy, but found the wired connection to the Iphone much more reliable.

I guess I've been lucky with my Lariat Hybrid. No mechanical issues at all, and my Sync3 system has been pretty darn stable. The only issues I've had relates to the fact that I'm using an aftermarket "wireless" CarPlay adapter, which occasionally (only 2X in 6 months) fails to synch up on the first attempt. Unplugging/replugging the short USB cable has always resolved that issue.

I do, however, religiously check the Ford site for software updates, and apply them to my truck ASAP.

I also have a wireless connection. I believe my connectivity issue at times is where my phone is on my person along with I Velcro the adapter to just under the connection port.

The recent Google provided update to Android Auto has been much appreciated. The layout is better and the resolution is much better. I can actually read the town and street names on the screen.
