See, this is the weird take.Pickup Utility Vehicle. No, it does not handle well like a zippy little Mazda car around town. It aint a car. Nor is it a truck. No chance it's a truck. I was at "Trick Trucks" recently looking at caps. I have confirmed that the Maverick is not a truck. It's a unibody, compact SUV with a bed. I wanted a Forester or RAV4 but instead chose the Mav due to the value and cargo space.
Truck and Car are not defined by unibody or body on frame. The difference is form factor and function and that's it. Panther platform cars aren't "trucks" because they're body on frame. The Ford Maverick, Honda Ridgeline, and Hyundai Santa Cruz are all trucks.
Hell, the first pickup was built on a car platform -- the model T. It was literally a car with a bed.
Cars just moved to unibody construction first. That's it. And folks need to get over it.
