Cannot be done, legally or technically.

Practically, sure, ANY Maverick can physically pull 4,000 pounds.

But if you get a 2K Maverick off the dealer lot, it'll never be rated as a 4K truck.

Honestly, for anyone ordering an Ecoboost, the 4K Towing package is arguably the best value and most useful option available on the truck.

Yeah I feel like if you go EB 4k is a must. If you don't need 4k and want non hybrid then tremor. If you want neither, hybrid

All you have to do is change out the entire rear suspension, new drive ratio, add transmission cooler, and change electronics. Easy-peasy. Oh yeah, new radiator, too. No problem.

Whatcha thinking on the price?
If you have to ask, more than likely it wouldn't be in the budget.

Convert the drive train/gear ratio/suspension, etc. to AWD
Add transmission oil cooler
Add higher capacity radiator
Add upgraded cooling fan
Replace electronics/wiring, etc.
Add trailer brake controller
Add trailer hitch receiver and 7 pin connector
Reprogram system
After purchasing all the necessary parts, add a butt load of labor cost
Then pray it works
Oh, well more than likely your vehicle warranty has been voided by now

$2965 upcharge to a FWD ecoboost. Value is subjective.
I was taking it as a given we weren't including hybrid folks since the 4K package isn't even available. Comparing it is kind of pointless as no one who needs 4K Tow is ordering a hybrid.

Even a FWD EcoBoost (same cost as the Hybrid powertrain) would require the inherent cost of upgrading to AWD since 4k isn't available for FWD.

And even if you could do all that, the door sticker (legal DOT ratings) would not be changed. Definitely not worth doing - sell the current truck and get the 4K truck you need.

I would have gotten a hybrid if I could get AWD and 4k towing on it for sure though

Definitely the most feasible option if OP really wants 4k towing is order one with it when the banks open up and then when it comes in then trade in the existing truck.

The cost to add it wouldn't be worth it and as you said, the sticker that says the legal tow ratings wouldn't match anyways for the capability of it.

Please cite the specific and exact laws your post is referring to. My bet is you will be unable.

I'm not a manufacturer and I'm not using the truck for hire or for any commercial purpose. I can tow any weight that a) does not impede the natural flow of traffic and b) does not create a blatant hazard to others.

If I modify my truck to keep up with the flow of traffic upgrade, modify my truck to stop on a dime downgrade, and strengthen it to not break down while doing so, it is 100% legal in the western states. I've done my homework. So please cite your source and specific municipality where it is illegal to modify your truck to comfortably tow "whatever". Do your homework. Post facts. Please. I'm legitimately curious if Eastern states have different laws.

For everyone else, if you hover over the username there is an Ignore option.

Convert the drive train/gear ratio
NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A MUST HAVE

Upgrade the suspension,
UPGRADED MINE

Upgrade to AWD
NICE TO HAVE & WISH I HAD BUT CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE TO DO - A WDH IS NEITHER RECOMMENDED NOR PROHIBITED FOR THE MAVERICK- I'M STARTING WITHOUT ONE AND IT'S WORKING FINE, BUT A WDH WILL TRANSFER SOME WEIGHT TO THE FRONT IF NEED BE.

Add transmission oil cooler
TESTED IN 96 DEGREE WEATHER ON 6% SUSTAINED INCLINE - THE HYBRID DOES NOT NEED IT.

Add higher capacity radiator
TESTED IN 96 DEGREE WEATHER ON 6% SUSTAINED INCLINE - THE HYBRID DOES NOT NEED IT.

Add upgraded cooling fan
SEE ABOVE

Replace electronics/wiring, etc.
DONE WHAT WAS NEEDED

Add trailer brake controller
ADDED

Add trailer hitch receiver and 7 pin connector
ADDED

Reprogram system
NOT REQUIRED

After purchasing all the necessary parts, add a butt load of labor cost
VERY LITTLE ACTUALLY

Then pray it works
I DID. IT EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS.
