Weathertech aluminum bed cover installed

After reading the experience of others on the topic of bed covers, I opted for the Weathertech three-piece aluminum one. The cost ($995.95 plus shipping and tax) was similar to the others on the market but I have always found the Weathertech products to function "as advertised". It is fabricated with 14g aluminum sheet stock with a satin powder coat finish. The side sections fasten to the inner bed flange with aluminum multi-tooth clamps. I had this mounted within an hour. I've had it out on some of the bumpier streets around here and no rattles so far. Seems like a tight fit and with the rubber seals, it should be at least as dry as most of the better ones. The whole unit weighs a little over 50 lbs. Very happy so far.

OP can answer best, certainly, but if it's like their F-150 product only smaller, then it will lift slightly if you want to get something under there a little easier, and you keep lifting to take the whole cover off. The exterior edge/rail stays.

It sounds like you're asking about a how a roll-up tonneau goes all the way to the glass, but that's really not that different. When a rollup is up like that, you're still going to lose some length in the bed. You can only have it all if you remove the cover. And I suppose, if you want absolutely all the full width, you'd also have to remove the base rails, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that very often.

No, there are some out there like the Bakflip G2 which has a hinge and the last panel folds up against the glass. He is probably asking for the same reason as me, the price. You can get a hard fold-up for $500-600 but it doesn't fold all the way. For $1000 it should include it though. Otherwise, there are better options out there.

It looks easy enough to take off if you need the whole bed. Some others fold up against the window and you still loose about 6" of space.

exactly what I'd think. why would you want something (questionably) secured against the glass and still using some fore-aft space, when instead you just remove it as shown in the video.

No, there are some out there like the Bakflip G2 which has a hing and the last panel folds up against the glass. He is probably asking for the same reason as me, the price. Agreed. If you call Backflip they will give you a discount. I got mine out the door for $960. Needed a cover that would open all the way so I could transport mountain bikes. There is another company called Bison that is even cheaper, like $600 US$. But they only sell in CANADA. If you have connections, then …

Exactly, f*ck the idea of having to remove it completely, plus it looks like it folds thick. A complete hassle and space hog. For the odd time you need the whole bed open, you want it to be able to flip up at the back completely. The weathertech model shown does not allow you to do that, this is the maximum it opens as shown here (note the thickness):

It's not secured against the glass (questionably). It's inclined and the part that touches the top of the cab is foam padded. For practicality, I'll gladly give up 2" of fore-aft space. Plenty solid at highway speeds too.

I've never seen that, pretty cool. The bakflip doesn't do that.

I haul MTB also, but I have a Ford soft trifold and it takes me 2 min to remove it, and I rarely need to haul anything securely or waterproof so open bed with tailgate pad is how I usually roll.

I paid about $200 for my cover. It's ñot the same quality as this one but it works fine. I do have a small water leak during storms but it has never gotten stuff wet that was in the bed. I would like to see how well they hold up. I have a Lariat with a built date and I may opt for a nice one like yours for the new truck.

Yeah, I would've gotten the Bison if they shipped here. I even looked into companies that basically import stuff for you but after the processing and shipping fees it would've been about $800 so for $100 more you get a Bakflip

Major fail for about 900 if it doesn't fold up against window glass. If it doesn't its only worth the 450 to 500 price range.
