Maverick AWD and Highway Performance?

Hi, I'm looking at buying a Maverick here soon and just wondering how this thing performs on extremely windy open roads. In my 2d soft top Wrangler its downright dangerous to drive on the highways out here due to the wind - however, the 4wd (with bigass tires) and off-road capabilities are absolute life-savers here, and i've never once been stuck in a blizzard. Bit of a wacky trade-off, I know. I'm wondering if the Tremor package is enough for extremely snowy winters, and also how this truck holds up in the wind on the highways. Would love to hear about your experiences.

My AWD Maverick is very stable in winds. And we get them here in the WNC mountains. I do miss the tracking stability of my old RWD Ranger - because my AWD Maverick wanders just a teensy-tiny bit even on calm days. But I'm the only person on the whole forum who seems to notice that, so maybe my old RWD Ranger was just super-stable and I was spoiled by it.

Our Maverick is not AWD, but a FWD hybrid. It gets pushed around a little bit by winds but high speed stability does not seem to be any worse than our Macan, which is like a tank. That's high praise for the Maverick.

It's one of the most capable AWD system I've experienced. It feels planted around the corners even with crappy stock Continental tires. I took a 900 plus miles road trip from Iowa to Georgia looping around the hills/mountains in Tennessee and the AWD worked as it was intended. It mostly operates in FWD and AWD kicks in when things get a bit dicey. I highly recommend it.

I had a 91 4.0 5spd shortbed Ranger. I could do donuts then just let off the wheel and rocket straight as an arrow power shifting all the way into 4th gear and chirping the tires at everyone except 5th. Twin I beam is the shiznit! However I did get put into another lane by one of those microburst downdrafts that turns the world solid gray for 30 seconds. A mile and a half away it knocked over every power pole in my entire neighborhood, so it was a significant breeze.

I'd agree with the other posters about stability in high winds. It's really solid. Better than my wife's Explorer Sport (which is really quite good). I doubt you'll find much better without going with a car.

I split my time between FL and a bit west of you in NC, and have been having a blast on the roads up there with the little maverick

Out of curiosity, what tires do you have? I noticed a similar thing with the stock tires. When I swapped to Wildpeak Trails in 235/60 r17, it made a huge difference compared to the original Conti's. The actual tread width is almost 2" wider than the Conti's. No wandering on the interstate. Also no tramlining, but a much stiffer feel.

No, you are not the only one that notices the wandering in the wind and around semis. The Maverick I have is a F4X AWD and it wanders quite a bit. I’m thinking it may be the cheap tires or lack of Caster in the front end alignment. I tried reducing and increasing tire pressure. Higher tire pressures seem better but it’s still there.

I just drove a 410 mile round-trip. It was very windy, rainy, and even some snow. The Maverick performed flawlessly. You can feel and hear the wind, but it didn't blow me around terribly. I still drove 82 mph on wet roads/light rain. I dropped down to 60 when the snow started sticking to the road. The Falkens were great.
