"Only if it's a single cab, 6-8 ft bed, manual transfer case, manual locking hubs, manual transmission, manual windows, window vents, no screens, bench seat, metal bumpers, and steel wheels. Oh, and come in brown. But I'll only buy it used because depreciation is for suckers and Toyotas run forever." -truck luddites

They would be foolish not to cash in on this new "fad". Most people need the bed the size of the Maverick for most of their tasks. Garage space also seems to be a big issue too, and fuel mileage, and cost. Just to name a few things.

What's not clear is how they make a profit in the sector. One thing ford did that was very savvy was to set the price of the base model very low. That ensures competitors will stay out of the sector because it's too hard to make money in it. Or if they dive in they have a built in disadvantage if they price higher.

My first vehicle was a 1980 toyota pickup, 2 seat, RWD, 98 hp, 6' bed, manual trans, manual windows. The only amenities were a/c and power steering/brakes. Yeah, it was cheap, bulletproof (except to rust which killed it) and I loved it but if I had to choose between that and the mav I'd get a mav every single time.

If toyota does make another compact pickup they should look long and hard at the mav as the template. Make one that retails for, say, $3k more than a similarly equipped mav but make it bug free and super reliable and they will own the segment.

Toyotas don't really seem to depreciate much until they've got lots of miles and use. Maybe you should rethink that part. It would take quite a while too.

Yes, they should, my first car/truck was a 1973 Datsun 620 pickup w/ 1600 cc IL4. It was great other then it had no power, but it was pretty versatile.
I’ve had lots of full size trucks whose purpose was for work, towing equipment even off road screwing around.
I still have a full size that I will keep running just for plowing and hauling my bobcat or picking up materials for the furniture I build.
I wanted a small truck/UTE for a daily driver or just filling up Jerry cans for four wheelers/ snow machines, or propane for the smoker and grill.
I really wish Isuzu would offer the D MAX in the U.S, 3.0 liter turbo diesel W/ a 6 speed manual 4x4 mini truck.
For some reason the climate change cult doesn’t want us to have a diesel that gets 40 mpg. Probably because they are invested in other garbage.

I'm hoping they'll go for a Rav4 or Corolla hybrid base with a bed replacing the trunks.

Latest Youtube video just a few days old says otherwise now. Maybe more like ecoboost drive train.

Seems like Toyota has really been resting on it’s laurels. Would love to see some competition in the hybrid truck space but unfortunately, Toyota will be way overpriced for it’s segment. Just look at the Tundra Hybrid and you can see the future, no hybrid option outside of top trim.

. . . Garage space also seems to be a big issue too, . . .
That's exactly why I bought a Mav rather than a Ranger.

Who cares??? Love the Maverick!!
Because, assuming demand keeps up, the more options out there the better things are for the consumer -- including those who buy Mavericks
