TRAGIC update! I spent almost a year (thankfully not longer!) trying to replace my 4,000 lbs. F-150 XL ($40K incl taxes) that I could NOT afford. I don’t know how - or if - we’re going to financially recover from what it took for us to get this Maverick.
And it’s the wrong order.
I’m gonna be sick. I cannot make any more payments on this curse of a vehicle I have; I can’t take this messed up Maverick; and I don’t know how I’m going to keep my job. I just can’t fit my tools in my spouse’s Prius.
///////////////////
Detailed version, for the curious:
How did this happen? I need the base XL package with a full-sized spare (+$115) and the 4-pin trailer harness (+$100). That’s a $22K truck. Why did I order a $32K Lariat with the Luxury Package?
Adaptive Cruise Control. If I’m gonna have a payment every month and if I’m forced to drive a 5,000 lbs monstrosity (I’m a biker, we don’t enjoy power steering, windshields, or massive vehicles), then at least can it be nice? Can it have ONE feature that removes me from the road in a GOOD way? I was ready to deal with having to clean leather instead of vinyl. I could put up with the heavier wheels. I was even ready to take the 400-grit sandpaper off my phone case so I could actually use the wireless Qi charger and not scuff it up. At 2.99% (the “good old days” of early 2022 interest rates) I could *just* afford making this thing all delicate and non-job site safe.
After all, I was gonna keep this less expensive, 40mpg work truck for 20 years! I told my wife we’re gonna find some cheap land and build a dream house! I hit 24 months soon and can get my contractor’s license, so we were gonna sell this house and move back home to the Midwest.
Well, my Maverick finally arrives, and I sit down behind the wheel, and she’s got Ford’s Co-pilot 360 or whatever. Except the name kind of matters because there’s a co-pilot 360 and a co-pilot 360 Assist Package. There’s two of them.
I definitely had ordered the wrong one this whole time.
$32K for a $22K truck because I wanted one, single feature. And she showed up without it. With interest rates having been raised SIX times since I tried to order a ‘22, I just couldn’t “donate” the extra MSRP to Ford for a feature it didn’t have. I had to leave her at the dealership. And then go home and cry.
