Sales guy said the back passenage windows have a factory tint (don’t know what percentage) or for that matter if it is within the glass as opposed to a film if there is a difference. Anyway, he suggested I get the front driver and passenger window tinted to match back side windows. I live in Florida so tint comes in handy though I don‘t want as dark as most dealers do it now days. Had a Prius and it was so dark that if I was on a county road without telephone pole over head lights I would have to roll down the driver window if I came to a intersection Stop sign to see if a car was coming (most times would need to do that if it was raining).

I do have the manual sliding back window and am told that is tinted from factory darling then the back side windows. Do you all feel it is safe to just have the front sides match the back seat side factory window tint?

Guess while we are on the topic, has anyone added that front top windshield tint and if so what percentage tint please.
Thanks all

Dark front windows look cool from the outside but are kind of a nuisance from inside the car. Unless you're doing a lot of custom work on your new truck, I'd just leave the front windows factory stock.

Don't know the percent but it's "rear privacy glass" - it's in the glass, not a film applied to it.

Per Ford of Australia:

Privacy and Tinted Glass
Tinted windows and privacy glass are used on vehicles for various purposes. Although tinted windows and privacy glass have similar functions, there are several characteristics that differentiate the two.
Privacy Glass
Privacy glass is known for giving privacy and allowing very little light inside your automobile. It consists of a glass that is naturally less transparent than other glasses. Privacy glass is like coloured or stained glass, where the color is in the glass itself. Privacy glass is installed by the factory that manufactures your automobile. Privacy glass can be treated and cleaned just like normal glass. In Ford vehicles, privacy glass blocks 98% of ultraviolet (UV) light.
Tinted Window Glass
Unlike privacy glass that is naturally manufactured with less transparent glass, tinted windows are given a darker shading by applying the tinted film to the inside surface of the windows. These tinted films come in various shades and your local roads or traffic authority will define what is legally acceptable in terms of shading. Window tinting does not come from the factory but is applied by a 3rd party provider as an extra cost over and above the purchase price of your vehicle. For recommendations on how to clean tinted window glass, contact the installer.

I tint for a living, my back windows metered at 22%. I put CIR20 all the way around and a 5% 8" windshield strip on mine. And the poster above is correct, the rear windows are simply privacy glass, with dye made into the glass to give the appearance of tint. It does nothing for UV or heat. That's why I tinted over mine.

I think the factory laminated tint in the back is around 15%.

It's really personal choice, but for me, 40% is as dark as I like for the front doors, and I don't like anything on the windshield. I drive a fair bit at night, and feel like anything darker is unsafe. Plus not an abundance of sunny hot days in Ohio. If I lived in AZ or somewhere similar, and didn't drive at night a lot, I'd probably feel differently.

Just a side note, the 40% tint I had done on the front doors looks very similar to the 15% factory tint, when looking from inside to out. But looking outside to in, it appears much lighter. I suppose the difference between a film & the lamination. Just FYI....

You are correct, looking out of dyed glass looks completely different than actual tint. We hear it all the time. People want their front doors matched to rear, while we can achieve that when looking in, but looking out it never matches.

Pretty truck, ty.
Though confused...per a post above it indicated.
"... Privacy glass can be treated and cleaned just like normal glass. In Ford vehicles, privacy glass blocks 98% of ultraviolet (UV) light...."
Thus, does prvacy glass block 98% of UV or not? If it does then it blocks UV but maybe not heat being transferred into the truck?

I guess Ford's glass does block UV, I didn't know that. I just assumed it didn't because some don't, it is simply for looks. It's always a moot point for me because I tint every single piece of glass in a vehicle. But that said, I would say it does not block heat. A good ceramic film is best for that.

Also, do the front side windows have Privacy Glass in them like the back windows?
If so then all four would be around around 22% which I guess is not dark at all per say. Guess I will just need to go to the Dealer on a Friday when their window film installer is there and I can sit in the truck and figure it out.

For certain the view looking out from inside is the key for me.
Thanks all

Privacy glass (factory dye) may not block UV or heat. I've read some people get an almost transparent ceramic on the rear door and bed windows, then a darker ceramic on the front door windows. (could be medium or dark like the rear windows)

There is no privacy glass (dye) in the front 2 doors. Those will need to be tinted if want some UV and/or heat protection.

The lower the % the darker the look, so if your back doors are at 22% you would need a 25% film on the front to match as close as humanly possible. Anything with a higher %, say a 35% will be lighter. Hope I helped ya out some.

To be honest, I didn't meter it after the fact. I will Monday when I get to work.
