Yes if I were to switch to EB I would definitely go AWD for sure.

I was trying to get myself to switch to EB for the AWD but decided to the Lux package to hybrid and stick it out. With the winter we are having I may regret that lack of AWD but figure EB should be easier to order or find used next year. I drive so much in town also I am lucky that if the weather is bad my work usually calls a snow day.

Unlike in 2022MY where changes to retail orders impacted retail order receipt date and subsequent prioritization, any changes to 2023MY retail orders (including powertrain) will not impact vehicle scheduling as this is determined by dealer allocation and available commodities.

it's the FIRST time I have seen anything in writing saying it can be done...
What about changing between trim levels? I have a friend who ordered an XL at the same time I ordered my Lariat, and now he wants a Lariat. Both hybrid orders.

Now recommended, if you have an XL on order as Ford only wants to build 15 percent XL's and there were 25 percent ordered.

I ultimately made the switch to Ecoboost. I drive mostly highway miles but AWD was the biggest factor. I was a little skeptical of going hybrid FWD on the first place to be honest.
I wasn’t seeing many options on the market that fit what I am looking for until I came across the Maverick. The Ecoboost is still a nice step up in fuel economy from my current vehicle.
the hardest part of going with the Maverick is that it will be my first automatic vehicle in over 32 years. I would continue to only drive manuals but it is now to the point where the vehicles offered in stick shift are not as fuel efficient and some lack the current safety features.
I traded in a 94 Ranger (5-speed manual) that I owned for 27+ years when I bought my Maverick, so I identify with your situation. When I traded it in my Ranger was getting 20-22 mpg, now I get 27-29 mpg with my EB.
