none of the above. Must be the way light is hitting it. No collision. No damage. Yes the first pic is most representative of flaking.

Not sure about car wash. I use the same car wash for 15 yrs with all my cars and no damage

I dont sweat small stuff with my vehicles so unless there's a recall or the paint starts flaking like crazy, I'll just touch up and move on

I don't know.....there's a clear separation of body panels in the second photo and definite damage to the fender in the first photo which is right in line with where the paint is flaking off. Bring it to Ford to see what they say but I'm going to go with this being impact damage most likely via car wash.

What the heck happened to this thing?
I'm going to go with something along the lines of one of these not moving out of the way correctly which is exactly how my escape suffered similar damage in a car wash. I wound up paying out of pocket ($400) when the car wash refused liability because of signage and it just wasn't worth my time to take them to small claims court. In OP's case I think it pushed the front bumper and front fender back and caused the fender to fold a little at the spot where the larger paint chip is.

Not in the loop with what’s happening here but are there others with flaking paint ?

I’ve been real happy with overall build quality of my truck except for the paint

just in case anyone read my leaf stain thread. No this isn’t where I had those stains.

No, not a manufacturer's defect. This is insurance or out of pocket. Unless you have pics of the dealer principal with a goat, then it is covered under warranty.

So you did run your Maverick through a car wash. I would maybe rethink using that one again.

No. The flaking is unusual. The paint is thin. I’m guessing eventually there will be a recall like my 4Runner had for super white.

you all can argue it all you want but the paint peels way to easily.

I have a paint claim in with Ford now, and when I brought it in to my dealer the guy was blown away that I actually had a legitimate claim. I suspect it’s because the majority of paint claims is folks running their cars into things and then getting mad that they can’t get a repaint when the paint fell off. 🙄

Yea. My 4Runner started the same way. Paint would flake if you looked at it funny.
Eventually Toyota issued recall on the super whites.

I have 6 trucks. All are work trucks and treated rough. All have paint scratches. The Mav is unusually thin and easy to peel.

I’m just going to sit back and wait. I’m guessing eventually Ford will have to do something.

Perhaps your vision isn't quite 20/20.

This photo shows clear damage, in a circular/swirling motion, that extends from one body panel to another, and whatever caused the swirling damage also chipped the paint off the adjacent body panel.

I'm not sure how you don't see/understand this.

Huh? What are you the paint police. Lol

the first pic is paint flaking. Paint is thin. It comes off this truck way too easy. A quick search tells me I’m not alone.

anticipating a repaint in next 5yrs funded by Ford.

Damage.webp
Exactly, in that picture the paint in the lower panel is damaged down to the primer in a few small spots, then whatever mechanically damaged the panel caught the higher paint edge on the top panel and ripped it off. The paint along that edge tends to be higher due to the paints surface tension during application. That picture represents physical damage..

Same with your second post above showing scratches around the missing paint.

Why a five year wait if the paint is defective now?
