It's against the law to offer a product for a sales price and change the price at time of sale. At least in the US (and I can't imagine other developed countries not having a similar protection as the notoriously business-friendly US). This would be a bait & switch. There are federal & state laws to prevent this.

An error in the order system could be an solved via an immediate note to allow a customer to change the paint or agree to the higher price, certainly not waiting until delivery.
This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how things work. But please, do cite the relevant laws and their jurisdiction over this process.

The dealer buys the vehicle from Ford. It's widely understood by the dealers that pricing is subject to change at the time of production. Invoice and MSRP may end up higher than what it was originally quoted at. This happens all the time and with the lobbying power of NADA and the like, if this were a legal concern, it wouldn't be any longer.

The consumer then buys the vehicle from the dealer. It's between the dealer and customer to agree on a selling price. Unless the customer, on a retail order, has a firm OTD price in writing, signed by the relevant manager at the dealer (sales manager or GM/principal, generally), then the customer does not have an agreed price.

The consumer, unless otherwise noted in documentation between dealer and consumer, is not obligated in any way to purchase the ordered vehicle upon arrival. If it's even produced, since the manufacturer certainly makes no guarantees that will happen (see the unfulfilled 2022 Maverick orders that had to be reordered as an example). Without a firm OTD price in writing, signed by a manager with the legal authority to bind the dealer into a contract, the consumer is at the mercy of the dealer to sell the vehicle for any given price.

Simply putting in a retail order and receiving a printout with the MSRP listed at the time of order does not create any obligations on anyone's behalf. Not that the manufacturer fulfill the order or maintain the original pricing, not that the dealer sell the vehicle - if produced - for any given price.

Oh, and in this case, it's an obvious mistake from the start that a reasonable customer would expect to be caught and not honored. After all, it was clearly documented everywhere - order guide, build & price, etc. - that the additional cost paint options were additional cost paint options.

If you feel your dealer misled you, then feel free to take it up with them to see what they're willing to do to make it right. If they have any integrity and they neglected to advise you of this situation, then they may absorb some of the cost. But they could just as easily tell you that it is what it is and not even pass along any price protection from Ford, instead selling at a higher revised MSRP, and without a signed contract, there would be no relevant laws for your lawyer to pursue.

Half of this forum seems to exist to discuss ordering, changing orders, tracking orders, constraints, and other specifics of the process. Am I the only one who knew exactly what I wanted, ordered it, and then picked it up when it was ready without any additional communication or second guessing? Maybe I am the weird one, but I can't imagine bothering people with changing things like colors or adding/removing packages to try and game the system.

Nah. You just don't hear us making a whole lot of noise and complaints, since we know what to expect. ;)

I had no charge on the cyber orange on day 1 of order banks being open. I am fully expecting it to be on the final invoice though. I was going to add the spra in liner/cargo management if it was available and not a constraint.

The dealer did tell me any changes would negate price protection. I was more concerned with a general price increase in the next 3–12 months or however long it takes to get my Mav
Wait if we make any changes to our order we lose out on price protection? That doesn't sound right. I recently had my dealer and the SIBL and Cargo system so hopefully I don't lose out on price protection. Can anyone confirm?

order changes have been weird, I asked to have co-pilot added to my order in late November (if possible) and that's where things got goofy. was able to add the co-pilot, but I noticed the charge for the paint, I thought they missed it somehow earlier, but also some options were dropped. I was told the lux pkg was oversold and not available. Griped to the salesman after seeing the memo posted on here about available changes, and told him I wanted the spray in and cargo deal. I got an updated order form today, it's not 100% correct, but we can fight over that if and when it gets built and delivered. Not quite sure what the $335 option is?

The changes that typically reset price protection (it starts over from the date of the change, so any future price increases are still eligible) are things like trim (XLT to Lariat) or powertrain (Hybrid to EcoBoost to Tremor). Changing paint or options packages generally does not affect price protection.

Whether the dealer still passes along to you the rebate from Ford is a whole other story..

I tried looking into the difference btw the $225 and $325 options....and is isn't 100% clear to me.
The full description for the latter in WBDO is "Cargo Mngt Sys Bed Cross Bars"
I think that it is most likely this: https://accessories.ford.com/products/cargo-management-system-crossbar-kit

The complication is that what that printout from WBDO is calling the "D-link bed connectors", is the what looks like "Cleat Tie-Down Kit C (61D)" from the dealers end in WBDO.... which is the option that the memo calls "Cargo Management system" .... which is the option that the order guide calls "Bed Tie Down locking Rails w/ 2 Locking Brackets". o_O

So the correct option has 4 different names (and I didn't even try to look in the parts catalog yet...or Ford Accessory site).
The dealer must have seen the description of the "cargo management system" and chosen that.

The key is if they add 61D.... that is the one that you are looking for for the discounted accessory pkg.

Maybe this has cleared up some confusion....but I may have just created more!

I appreciate you digging into it............I just got so flustered with being told one thing and the Ford memo showing something totally different? I'm guessing it's less than a 50/50 chance it gets built as a MY23.........but I really wouldn't be too upset if it gets pushed to a MY24, since I have a Maverick already.

My post mostly didn't make it above!!!!
I want to thank everyone that replied to this post.
I get that 2022 had price cost for some paint options and maybe there was a problem in the order bank pricing.
I understand and accept it.
But if we are seeing zero on the Dora sheet and there is a change should Ford have let us know?
I worked in sales for a while, and the number one thing is to keep your customers informed of changes.
Ford sends us an email every 45 days, it's a targeted group, if there are changes they should let us know.
