Since the EB is basically free, the awd seems to be the only viable conveyance there. They did it before with the 4K tow fwd's."Shoulda" won't fix the current problem. I say drop the price of the EB or throw in AWD for free.

Good points...I should add to my post above, that, and this is just my opinion, I believe the times of people buying these and getting 5-10 grand over MSRP is quickly going to go away. How soon is hard to tell, but I believe it is coming.
It is already happening with the Ford Superduty, which last year was just as stressful and just as much of a mess as the mavericks, as far as demand for new superdutys and being able to get one. People were easily flipping new superduty trucks for 5-10 grand or more and today you would be lucky to get MSRP on a superduty. I think this same thing will happen with the maverick and soon.
Once we get to a point where you can't sell your new maverick to the dealer or carvana etc... for much of a profit, there will be no point in people trying to flip them. If that happens in the next few months, I bet there will be ALOT of the current ordered canceled, as I feel real sure there are hundreds if not thousands of people out there who ordered a small fleet of these trucks just to flip for a profit. When they see that they can't turn much of a profit on them, they will cancel their orders and the numbers will improve for everyone else who just wanted a truck to actually buy and drive.
I sold a base XL hybrid this week to a private party for $29k (purchased at $22.7k). I sold a lariat hybrid in August to a DEALER for a $6000 profit. I believe the hybrids of this vehicle will continue to command higher prices for the foreseeable future unless........A. the Mav proves to be a disastrous death trap after crash testing or, B. a viable competitor comes to market. I'm voting for the latter. Timing is unknown.I should add to my post above, that, and this is just my opinion, I believe the times of people buying these and getting 5-10 grand over MSRP is quickly going to go away. It sold before I had a chance to. He let me know at 2pm he had It in stock and by 8pm he texted me that it was sold.I bet you could have talked them down to 2 grand if you were serious.![]()
I still have a sour memory of when the PT cruiser came out. So many people wanted them when they first came out, my wife and myself included. People were paying thousands over MSRP to get a new one. Even used ones were bringing over MSRP. We found one about 8 months after they were on the market, used and we paid MSRP and felt like we got a deal. Drove the thing for about a year and a half and decided to get a different car and we couldn't give the thing away. It wasn't worth squat. We ended up finally selling it to a older woman for like 11 grand. I have never taken a bath so bad on a car before or since.I sold a base XL hybrid this week to a private party for $29k (purchased at $22.7k). 3k at peak?. That's the low end mark up on hybrid. It's happened.
People have found small town dealers with people who declined to pick up orders willing to sell at MSRP because the dealers still get them for under.
I walked onto a lot IN THE BIG CITY and drove home with one. $3k premium at the peak of the frenzy in September. The frenzy is slowing. But I considered that a reasonable fee for not waiting. I also needed to tow on a long trip in October. So it was right price at the right time for me. Not suffering is worth something.

Its not a fad. It was a VALUE. The most value for the dollar for someone who can't afford the average new car price of like 35000. A capable nice vehicle with more than the basic for less than a complete basic truck by thousands.I still have a sour memory of when the PT cruiser came out. So many people wanted them when they first came out, my wife and myself included. People were paying thousands over MSRP to get a new one. Even used ones were bringing over MSRP. I know the car market is different these days, but I do believe the newness of the maverick and people wanting something that is not very common is driving up the demand on them. That and empty dealer lots is creating these mark ups.
I think that even as good as we all think these little trucks are, if all the Ford dealers had three rows jammed packed with new ones and you could get these for under MSRP.... there is only going to be so many takers. ALOT of people wouldn't want one of these. They aren't super luxurious. They aren't super roomy. They are essentially a cheap little truck. I see them as a Fad for a lot of people, and once that Fad wears off, the value of these will drop like a rock.
Covid really changed the landscape of the value of things like cars and recreational stuff ( campers, boats, motorcycles, etc.... ). I feel like we are standing on a very steep pointed hill, right on the top, and any time we will lose our balance and fall down that hill price wise. There will always be demand for automobiles, but I already see it with the recreational market.... things aren't selling as quickly today as they were a few months ago, buyers are in standby mode and waiting to see if prices will go down as expected due to a recession etc...
So yes, people today are still paying over sticker, but I think that will dry up very soon.
Sorry, no offense, but there's a lot you don't "get" about manufacturing. If it could be done, it would have been done. The fantasy in your mind is not realistic.Still do not get Ford. If they have a product that is this popular. Build more of the parts in house and stop depending on other manufactures. They would sell every hybrid made. Regardless Ford is allowing companies like Toyota to come in and take away customers.
You're pretty much in tune I think.I think that even as good as we all think these little trucks are, if all the Ford dealers had three rows jammed packed with new ones and you could get these for under MSRP.... there is only going to be so many takers. Dealers were (are) asking for much more, and in a few isolated cases, getting more. I paid $3k over at the peak of the frenzy. Sure, they were asking more in my case too. But I negotiated down to $3k out the door. In September. Demand as softened ever so slightly since then. Odds are you can get a better deal now. So call around asking for ones that customers declined to purchase upon arrival.3k at peak?. That's the low end mark up on hybrid.
You would have to get extremely lucky to get hybrid at msrp. That you didn't order. 3k over after negotiating from 8 k mark up is good.Dealers were (are) asking for much more, and in a few isolated cases, getting more. I am not offended but to playing defense for Ford is also a joke. Ford has a history of terrible planning for products. Maverick, Bronco, F150 Raptor just to name a few. The sedan divisions were stopped and Ford built factories outside the US to cut costs. No one in product planning thought a 20k hybrid pickup would be popular or off-roading SUV? Even though I have 2 mavericks on order, odds are they will not be built. Stellantis is not the greatest company and yet I was able to order and take deliveries of 3 hard get vehicles during pandemic with both being about 6 month wait and beyond allocations dealers had. I do get manufacturing and Ford outsources suppliers to cut costs. Eventually the hype dies down and the Bronco forums can attest to that. Ford has only been in business for 119 years, not enough time to narrow the issues and correct them.Sorry, no offense, but there's a lot you don't "get" about manufacturing. If it could be done, it would have been done. The fantasy in your mind is not realistic.
Well it made sense for me.You would have to get extremely lucky to get hybrid at msrp. That you didn't order. 3k over after negotiating from 8 k mark up is good.
