Finally put a coat of black paint on the homemade tailgate tiedown I made a few weeks back and installed it. I have the tailgate assist strut, and didnt want to lose the functionality.

Thanks for the kudos. Sorry, it was a pain in the butt to make. Plus I made it out of scrap steel I had in my metal bin at home.

That looks really nice! Too bad no one has stepped up to make these for "the rest of us" who don't have A) the tools, and B) the skills to make these for ourselves.

There was somebody who was making them out of stainless steel. I think some people pissed him off and he no longer makes them. Mine were a reverse engineered copy off the pix he had of his after he decided to not make them anymore., so it's not really my idea. Honestly if I could have bought one,I wouldent have wasted the time to make one.

I look at the time trade off VS what I can sell it for. It's just not worth the time to cut, drill, and weld these things up, plus primer, and paint vs what I could get for them. Ditto with the oil catch can mount. I made what I needed for my own use and that was it.

My spare time is finite. I dont want to spend it piddling around making a bunch of these things. I have other things I need to get done. I used to dabble in making replacement mopar parts for vintage Chrysler products. I like stuff that appears OEM. On this I believe I nailed it.

The one thing I found was this. If I had a part I wanted to reproduce 50 people would say they want it. 20 would actually PM me for it, and only 8 out of the 20 might actually send me money for the part. Then I'm stuck with 42 remaining pieces left I would slowly have to sell.

What it comes down to is I'd be able to make maybe 5 of these in one day keeping the quality up, plus primer and paint the next day. So maybe 14 hours total in 5 of them. What can I get for them that somebody will reasonably pay? $25 plus shipping each X 5 pieces? I could go into work on my day off at time and a half for 10 hours and make $500 in 10 hours and not have the hassle of waiting for payment, or having to box up and ship something etc.

After enough of that horseshit with repopping vintage mopar parts, i said it's not worth it. I now only make what I need and thats it. Doing that type of stuff here will result in about the same ratio. Being cynical? Yes i am, however i have dealt with doing this type of stuff for awhile, along with the shenanigans involved with it. When you start looking at the time spent vs what you get out of it for your time spent, it's just not worth it.

Heres pix below of some of what i was manufacturing in my home shop. 67-72 A body small block V8 battery cables. Correct gage, length, and high temp terminals, automatic shifter sliders, and dual in dash 3.5" speaker mounts in place of center AM radio speaker for when adding FM stereo.

I still make battery cable sets from time to time as the profit margin vs raw materials cost is really good on these, plus I can knock out a set in about an hour as all my wiring and shrink tubing i have precut to correct lengths ahead of time. I only make them providing the buyer leaves me a non refundable deposit on a set before I start.

Added a bed rug from realtruck and just put it in.

Added coffee brown colored knobs. Not an exact match to the brown seats, but acceptable.

Added a two piece console unit. Everything’s got it own place now.

More accessories in progress.

Well, I didn't do this today but on Wednesday. Took my Maverick in to get it undercoated that morning. They were going to use this stuff I brought in (BP Surface Shield) since they didn't have the NU Oil. Then I looked under my Maverick to check out the undercoating job when I got home from work

Well, they didn't do a good job and didn't use my stuff (BP Surface Shield). I was pissed and they refunded my money when I called them and they will be sending me back my BP Surface Shield (gallon). The killer part is they told me they used up all BP Surface Shield when they actually didn't...my stuff sprays on clear.

Pretty cheesy. I suppose they thought you wouldn't check. Good post to serve as a warning to other members.

I like the knob look. I can't help but wonder how it is your profile lists an XLT, but clearly those are Lariat seats. Small matter, I know, but perhaps you can enlighten others on what happened.

I need to go back and change from XLT to Lariat. I ordered an XLT hybrid with CP and the lux pkg on 15 Oct 21. To make a long story short, my order was canceled and was offered a special offer from Ford to turn it into a β€˜23. My dealer said no changes would be allowed, and they had already removed CP and the lux pkgs, I told them I didn’t want it, started searching for a Lariat in the middle of October, found one, and bought it. That’s the short story.

One door closes and another opens. I love the Lariat's features and I'm betting you're glad you have one.

I totally get it. Just wish one of the specialty shops making other stuff for the Maverick would pick up on this and make them.
