I'm telling you now, this is the last hoop I'm going to jump through to prove to any doubters out there that I actually got the truck. Next thing someone would be asking for is a photo of my driver's license, social security card, the title for the truck with the VIN, and a check showing my bank routing number. Good luck with that. I'm old, but not yet senile.
They are just giving you a hard time, and no one complains about more Maverick photos here! Congrats on a quick buy and no wait. I am sure you will enjoy it!

Okay, that was a pretty good one. Especially the part where you say you're "an honest banker". I'm going to take a guess here and say that you probably moonlight part time as a stand-up comic. How close did I get?

The little lights may not be twinkling but I'm still smiling. I may have an opportunity to have a little fun here. First, I've got to ask if any of these trucks with the EB engine came with no cover on the top of the engine. I think it's called the modesty panel that covers all the components on top. This truck doesn't have one and I'm pretty sure it should be there. If I recall correctly, that panel not only dresses up the engine bay but also has something to do with the directing air flow around the engine to assist in proper cooling. Any comments on that?

Wow! This is a tough crowd. Either there are pix or it only happened in my imagination. I love it. Okay, so this is my first attempt at adding photos. Please bear with me if this doesn't work. While I'm at it, I guess it's only fair to warn you that I'm probably going to be asking questions. I know some will be dumb while others may actually enlighten. I may as well start right now. How do I edit my profile to delete the '04 Colorado?

First I would like to thank OleFordGuy for the simple instructions on how to edit my profile. Now then, onto the request for a photo of me with the truck. Decayed, you asked what options are on it. Besides the XLT package, it came with the molded splash guards and a soft tonneau cover. I noticed a back-up camera that may be an option and all the usual power toys like windows, locks, mirrors. I don't know exactly what may be optional after that, but it is now synced to my phone for hands free calling and remote starting. That's about it. One thing I missed right away is there is no handle on the driver side to assist in getting into and out of the truck. Ah well, they had to keep costs down somehow.

I am in the same age group as you. You have to excuse those that demand pics. Somehow, they think that every Maverick looks different and need a pic to find out what the difference is. I didn't show them a pic of mine but did show pics of a Ham radio installation I did and very few looked at them. So, just be a grouchy old man like me and don't let them influence you.

They do not include the engine cover. You can purchase one. There are treads about them along with the installation on the forum.

I had a conversation with the service manager, who checked with the parts manager and the information they came back with is that Ford eliminated those covers on some vehicles because of overheating problems. I was told that there was a general recall on some cars and trucks where the repair was to drill holes in the cover to improve cooling. I gather from that information that Ford somehow knows which vehicles need the cover or holes added to the cover. I think I'll just go along with the no cover situation as I don't really worry about the looks of the engine. I'd rather have it running properly.

While I was at the dealership, they checked and the floor liners I had been promised had already been delivered. Installed them as soon as I got home. I was also told that when things were set up to get the trailer hitch and spray-in bed liner installed I could get a loaner for a day or two.

Let's see here. "VIN number" seems to be right up there with "ATM machine". I love the way people mangle things. Provides a bit of humor once in a while.

I'll gladly be a grouchy old man every once in a while. When you're good enough at it, it tends to keep people off balance just enough that they don't know what to expect next from you. It's actually fun sometimes. Been practicing for years.

Even the earliest pictures I've seen of Maverick engine compartments didn't have an engine cover (both EB and Hybrid). So I don't think it had anything to do with "overheating", but was a cost-saving move to keep the price down.

Frankly those things annoy the hell out of me, since you have to remove them to do anything other than adding oil. I had a Mercedes SLK (long time ago) and that stupid engine cover took a 1/2 hour to remove, and another 1/2 hour to replace. PITA.

I've got to admit that I never saw a picture of the engine bay of one of these trucks. I've been lurking around this site and don't recall seeing any mention of the cover not being used. It's very possible this is a cost-cutting gimmick, but after talking with the service manager and hearing about holes being added to engine covers I guess one just has to choose what to believe. Either way, no real harm done. It was just a surprise to open the hood and see all the hardware exposed after all these years of finding covers topping engines.

Still smiling after four days of having this one in the driveway.

When the order lines opened for those few days in Sep. I managed to get a place in line and was told the wait would four to six months. I was okay with that. I once was on a list for a PT Cruiser for a year. Yesterday, Nov 22, 2022 I got a call from the dealer and was told that a customer didn't want to wait any longer, so there was a 2022 XLT available on the lot. Would I be interested? Uh, honey where are the car keys? We gotta' go, NOW! Even though I had ordered a blue 2023 with a hybrid engine, the one available was a black 2022 EB. It didn't have all the options I had asked for, but the dealer was able to add them to the deal and we ended up within $100 of my original order. They will be added as they become available and they are already paid for. So, here I am with a black 2022 XLT sitting in the driveway and now I get to learn about all the things the truck will or will not do. Happy? Hell yeah, I'm happy.
Your story is like mine. I have a Hybrid ordered for me and another for my wife, but have looked everywhere for one. I finally found a black XLT and scooped it up. It was actually loaded. Have had it almost two weeks and love it. Guess I will keep it until my Hybrids get here, then sell it because I want the Hybrid for fuel economy. That being said, I got over 35 mpg at 74 mph for the 225 mi stretch when I picked it up, and getting around 28 for combo driving since then. Mine is an AWD FX4 with off-road package. Did not need all that, but just glad to have a Maverick that is not a Dallas basketball team.

Glad to someone else up in years like me who appreciates their Maverick. Us old folks have to stick together, especially those of us who have Shadow Black Mavericks.

The "holes" that got drilled for the recall were in the bottom cover below the engine. Here's a link to one post that shows the location of the holes that were added: Hybrid Recall...

I'm pretty confident there was never an engine cover that shipped standard on the Maverick. People have been purchasing the engine cover from an Escape to use, but I just don't see the point. If I was concerned about noise, I would add soundproofing under the hood rather than put a "modesty skirt" over the engine.
