The stock hood is already pretty darn light. I don't know about that one. Flat rims or aerodynamic hubcaps would probably give you more MPG.

There's no probably about it, they absolutely would. As would lighter rims or tires.

I bet you'd gain more savings over the life of your maverick by just making sure to pee before every drive, saving 3-4 oz of weight on each outing.

I see that it is made of aluminum and that carbon fiber would still be lighter.
So the follow up, is how much potential savings could there be in a year?

Carbon fiber would not be much if any lighter then an aluminum hood. Most carbon fiber hoods are actually fiberglass with an additional layer of carbon fiber layed on top of the exterior. Because of cost. A true and only carbon fiber hood are real money. Like $3k+

I've had carbon fiber hoods. They will not increase mileage to any significant degree. You'd have to save a lot of weight to improve mileage.

Once you get to carbon fiber hoods, you should already have a stripped interior.

If you're really concerned about fuel mileage go for shaving rotational mass. There are a lot of estimates out there but the general thought is that every pound of rotational mass you shave is equivalent to 7 or 8 pounds of static weight. I believe the stock wheels weigh around 25 pounds each. If you could shave 7 pounds a wheel that would be an estimated equivalent to shaving a total of 200 pounds of static weight.
