In addition to the 2022 Velocity Blue base hybrid with only a drop-in bedliner that I ordered in October, 2021 that still hasn’t been built, in September, 2022 I ordered a stripped 2023 Area 51 hybrid that I will be selling as soon as it arrives (if it ever arrives). Is it possible to sell the truck or the rights to the truck without ever officially buying it so I wouldn’t have to go through the whole sales tax and loan process? I am hoping to make something in the $3-5,000 clear profit range.

No, you will have to register and title it. You can't avoid paying taxes on it which is what I'm assuming you're trying to do. You think a state like NJ is going to let you get away without paying taxes? Come on now, you know better than that. I'm a federal employee and they are the only state that taxed my TSP contributions. They WILL get their taxes from you :ROFLMAO:

A dealer might, might give you some amount to pass on the order, but they otherwise have no obligation to do so. It's technically their property until you're a buyer and you're telling them you don't want to buy.

As long as the Maverick prices remain high, I am ok with paying the taxes as long as I can still make a fair amount selling it. What May be difficult is getting a second car loan even if it is just temporary. This is assuming that I actually get my 2022 order before my 2023. If I get my 2023 before my 2022, that would actually work out great. I would just sell the 2023 Mav, keep driving my Colorado, and then wait for the 2022.

No, you can't sell what you don't own, and your dealer gets to decide if they try to bribe you into backing out or just wait you out.

Believe me, I know about high taxes and New Jersey. I was very surprised though about taxes other states have that we don’t. I lived in South Carolina for two and a half years. They tax your car EVERY year, not just when you buy it. They also do it for boats and Winnebagos. What is really crazy is they tax food ! I don’t mean stuff like Fritos and Twinkies, I mean actual food like milk, bread, eggs, etc.

There are at least a dozen threads on MTF about this exact topic. A few people were given a few hundred ($500?) to walk away. A few others say that their dealers offered them $1k-$3k to walk away but they did not take it. However, this was during the frenzy 6+ months ago. Most people that tried this were basically told by their dealer to go pound sand. I bet at 50%+ of dealers if they knew you were doing this they would add some "last minute ADM", make you walk away, and then have it sold before you even made it out of the parking lot.

Likely the only way you are getting $3k-$5k now is buying the truck and selling it yourself to a private 3rd party. What Carvana and Zoom are paying for "used" cars right now is way down from what it was 6 months ago. Most dealers are paying even less. At the used car auctions, only about half the cars are being sold since bids are way less than the sellers are willing to take. On average, "lightly used" cars are worth 10% less now than they were in June. Wholesale prices are continuing to drop at about 1% per WEEK!! Since you don't even have the Maverick yet, it will likely be worth way less when it finally shows up. I would be super surprised if any dealer offered over MSRP on a "used" Maverick come December.

December of what year lol. I won’t even get my 2022 at least until February. I don’t know if Ford could have screwed up their opportunity more if they tried. A whole category of vehicles to themselves and they blew it.
