Manuals are dead . Manufacturers don't want to build or support them.

Except for legit performance cars. See Toyota's new GR Corolla and Cadillac's new C4V Blackwing and C5V Blackwing. And still available in the upcoming refreshed 2024 Mustang. Manuals provide an extra measure of fun for many performance car enthusiasts.

The Maverick doesn't fit the bill. I think the only way we'd ever see it is in a performance version (like the Focus RS) with significant suspension and power upgrades, but that ain't going to happen.

Never thought id go there, but having drivin a stick most of the last 30yrs (have had automatics for the last 3 years) after more than 20,000 miles in less than a year with my 2.0 fx4 4k , it handles so good, and is so quick I think it would be a blast as a 5 speed. As it stands its so responsive that I cant really give it shi& unless Im merging onto a highway, i can never really really! drive it in suburbia whithout having to let off the throttle almost straight away. As a 5 speed, i would at least be able to walk it through a few gears. Before my Mav I had a 2019 Wrangler Automatic Trans and found it to be the ultimate off road machine in low gear so smart and easy at crawling over anything with know stress, but the Maverick is a really nice road machine , I wonder what it would be like as a 5 speed.

I have 5 speeds in 2 rangers and a mustang. I will miss the manual. I drove a loaner escape in 2021 and it was strange for me when letting off the gas and not getting engine braking at all.

I also don't like automatics because they tend to shift to the next gear at too low of rpm. My 2001 ranger had a 6 speed auto and it was always shifting to the next higher gear to reduce the engine rpm. I suppose, to get better milage. It just bugged the hell out of me that it never ran in the engines power band.

Just the same I am ready to go to an automatic because it seems like I daily have people almost rear ending me when I shift from 1st to 2nd gear leaving stoplights. Everybody sees green and just hits the gas.

A 5 speed manual would be an awesome option to have in the line up. Love my hybrid, I feel like its zippy enough and I find myself having to slow my speeds down because I dont realize im over the limit until after the fact but I also realize that the truck im driving was built for gas saving. I am loving what i'm seeing as far as tunes and mods that some folks are doing on their eco boosts so a 5 speed Manual would be a phenomenaloption to have, shoot I might get me an eco boost once im done paying the hybrid off. Excited to see where the maverick will be in 10 years.

The eCVT to me feels a lot like an old school GM 2-speed Powerglide transmission. Had one in a 1968 Cutlass 350 c.i.. 4-bbl 300 hp. When you pulled away from a stop you feed it throttle till you reached your desired speed, then it shifted into high gear when you lifted off the gas.

The eCVT feels much the same. I accelerate to my desired speed at a moderate pace then let off and it usually goes into electric mode. Since I have been driving it this way my MPG's have improved. YMMV

Agreed, even the Corvette finally gave up on manuals! The only thing manuals do better than automatics is spin tires, very expensive tires nowadays.

No thanks, the vehicle that my Mav replaced had a 5 speed manual and after 13 years and 145,000 miles I was ready to move on.

Manuals aren't for everyone but I do love my 5 speed on my current F 250.

Guess I am the old guy saying that I learned to drive on a manual transmission.

But, I do really like the ease of automatic when I drive my Maverick.

OP spoke of a automatic jeep. Thats funny every auto jeep I have driven has given me ton of nervousness hoping it will move when it is supposed to. When I have the money I am swapping my MJs aw4 for a AX15 I have in a parts truck.

I had 2001 Jeep tj 5 speed 4cly (daily driver over (220,000 KM) in 18yrs then it died, so went to 2019 Wrangler V6 automatic (always 2 doors) dont care for the 4 door model , and was really fun of road in bull low gear a real tank and no knees wobbling over clutch in stressful situations. I would love it if my Maverick even had the option of manually shiffting the auto trans ! (Thats offered in many cars these days) Hell my wife's Elantra has that option. Just being able to hold a gear on hills or bush trails would at least give the impression of more control. (Fun)

P.S. Picked up 23 boxes of Laminate flooring today At 48lbs per box that was over 1100 lbs , what a champ the truck did not even care

5 Speed? Why not a 6 Speed?
I'm kidding but I haven't seen a 5 speed manual in a new car in the United States in a long time, the manuals are all 6 speeds now.

"a manual is just more engaging to drive" illustrates why Ford hasn't yet put one in a vehicle like the Maverick. Simply put, the Maverick is not designed in any way (at least in hybrid trim) to be engaging, rather it is designed to efficiently get between points, because that's what extensive market research and sales data has supported that people want.

In Ford's view, if you want a manual transmission so that you feel more involved in the driving process, they have Mustangs for you to buy that fill that desire.

The comparative few here who love to say "I wish" would not be enough to make it worth Ford's time in engineering, certification, and support. Recognize that you're an extreme minority, and go get an old manual Ranger, or a manual Mustang, etc.
