I want to put a Harbor Freight bike carrier (E-bike) on the back of my FE Hybrid, but am worried about the backup camera and any safety features that may be messed up without having a clear view back there. Can the camera be turned off? My truck is scheduled to be built the end of this month.

Only works in reverse. If blocked would be same as tailgate down. No problem.

not an issue - I've had my bike rack on and it still provides a decent view actually. backup cameras are typically very wide angle, so while a couple bikes look like it would obstruct the camera, there is a lot of space seeing around them.

Also, no issue with copilot 360 for me.

Camera is unrelated to safety sensors. And your prox sensors can always be turned off. Theres a button in the cab someplace. Youve never had a truck with a camera before huh? Haha theres many situations when they’re useless lol like has been said, blocking camera no different from tailgate down. Sensors blocked no different than snowy conditions. Youre good

Thanks to all for your input. I will not worry about it then. I have a camera on my SUV and it is not an issue visually, but then not a tailgate situation. So I will not cancel the truck. Ha Ha, like I would do that!

I did buy the HF bike carrier, it blocked the camera, I turned off the sensor, kept beeping, Rad Power e-bike did not fit down into the carrier (wheels too big), totally blocked my license plate with the bike on, returned it, putting bike in bed after removing the bed cover. For the record, the carrier was really nice quality, but could not fold up or down, so when on it stuck out a lot. And to put it on and off entails unbolting and bolting, not a quickie job. The bike fits with the tailgate mostly open, works out fine. Done

Hi @Arby47 I put a Raceface 5 position bike pad on the back of my 22 Maverick Lariat Hybrid. The BU camera is on bottom of the Ford logo and while most pads have opening for lift gate latch access the Raceface specifically calls out the Maverick fit. The area just under the Ford puffed out a bit so I fixed that.

I first put PPF across the upper 12" of the rear lift gate so any extra friction from bike hanging over the liftgate would be mitigated (Pad already has a nice fleece lining and is well padded but you know.....). Then did the same for the lower 5" or so where the 4 straps loop under lift gate. I spent a lot of time getting logo trimmed out doing it as one 12" piece. If doing it again I would not worry about it, cause duh you really done see the PPF anyway when pad is on, lesson learned. Since there is PPF under the Ford logo I was able to use double sided velcro tape to hold down the area that puffed up.

When hauling 4 or 5 bikes I can still see through the spokes/fork tubes pretty well when backing up. When hauling 2 bikes I put one on each side and have NO blocking at all. The pad is really well made and holds the bikes down even during hard cornering. Lower height of Maverick makes on/off a breeze.

Ford Maverick Anyone put a carrier on the back that blocks the camera? Raceface - 1

With the heavy bike I have and the tailgate open, I get a nice shot of the ground when backing up! You seem to have it all worked out with your situation, way to go!

You find so? Lol maybe your trailers are different than ours. Any of the ones i use you will rear end the front wheel adjustment knob before this benefit comes to fruition haha
