It cracks me up that beanie babies had more consumer protection than Ford does. Ford dealers are nothing more than Authorized retailers/resellers and Ford doesn't give a damn.

If you sold beanie babies for higher than $5.95 during the craze they would either slap you with a volume limit or cancel your contract. They didn't mess about either.

My family's business got "investigated" multiple times over the years by the company because of consumer complaints. Multiple phone calls to reinforce our contract. We even had a rep and a few secret shoppers show up to look at our signage and pricing. We were a very small volume mom and pop shop.
Please tell us all about these highly powerful Beanie Baby Dealer Lobbies and their protectionist Beanie Baby Dealer Franchise laws.

I ordered a fairly loaded lariat in June 2021 and it was just delivered 2 weeks ago. In the meantime the msrp went up $2000. I went ahead and bought the vehicle and am very pleased with how it drives and first 1/2 tank of fuel is 41 mpg.
The owner of the Ford dealer is a personal friend of mine and he says that Ford has been doing this and it is making his customers upset. However, there is a process where the dealer applies to Ford for relief and about 90% are approved and Ford sends a check within 90 days. Still BS in my opinion, but we shall see.

The owner of the Ford Dealership that is your friend is either poorly informed or a poor friend. Because that is NOT how it works at all. The dealership will get that $2K. It is up to the dealership to take that $2k off the price you pay. Below from Ford:

* Should a vehicle price change, confirmed retail and fleet vehicle orders are protected to the price levels (base price, options and D&D) in effect when the order was originally received. The vehicle must be sold to the customer for whom it was originally ordered

*The dealer will receive an adjusted invoice; the adjusted price will appear in his Dealer Payment Statement (DPS) in the section labeled "Price Protection" approximately 30-45 days after the vehicle is reported sold.

* Dealer demo-ordered vehicles that are retained in service for a minimum of two months quality for Price Protection.

Ford Dealers are either ignorant of the above or if aware are playing stupid with their customers. It's an easy mark up for them that they can avoid taking any responsibility for.

I blame Ford Motor company more than their dealers. They could print up old MSRP's for orders made prior to price increases. They could have made it a direct to customer rebate. Ford had to know if they made it an adjustment in the Dealer Payment Statement 45 days after the purchase that 95% of their dealers would do everything they could to hide that info and keep the price protection $$$

If they're trying to get more money out of the deal they aren't going to agree to give it away in a higher trade value. Likewise an ESP or maintenance plan which can be cancelled.
Disagree, I did exactly this. Got 1k more on trade and presented it as a "compromise" since they swear they had no idea if Ford would send them a rebate and said price protection doesn't exist. That was half of the price increase I saw from initial invoice to current invoice.

1000% this. 20 ways to skin that cat and they chose the one that is easiest for dealers to deny exists. Maybe it is more out of ease of the corporate side and lack of foresight about dealers taking advantage.

I picked up my Mav today and the dealer told me price / finance protection wasn't a thing.... this seems to be all too common I can't wait for dealers to go away. Like it's my fault it took 1 year to deliver...

Well it happened as I predicted. The Maverick Lariat I ordered June 18, 2021, finally arrived. The dealer sent me an email with the buyer's order form showing current MSRP rather than the one in June 2021. It is a $3000 increase. I explained before to the sales manager about price protection for trucks ordered before Dec. 26, 2021 and even included the link on youtube that explains this completely. I wrote back and told them trying to increase the deal by $3000 after making me wait 16 months is as low as it gets. Especially since there is no reason to as Ford makes up the difference. I don't know if I want to pay an additional $3000 as I really don't need the truck. However, I can probably make a few thousand bucks flipping it anyway. It is a fairly loaded Lariat hybrid they want a little over $38,000 for. I think I can sell it for around $4 to 5,000 more than that. Even $3000 more might be worth while since I would just drive it from the dealer, and put it in the garage until it sold. I just hate the thought of letting them keep it and selling it for $10,000 more on the lot. What do you all think?
Not sure how this is happening to others. I did not have any issues or questions regarding the locked in price (hybrid lariat luxury package made October 9th 2021). My dealer (Lithia of Boise, ID) pulled up a copy of my order as I did as well and confirmed the amount. But trust me I was ready for a confrontation.

Glad to say I picked up my fully loaded Mav last Saturday, 10/15/22, and loving it.

Best of luck to the rest of you who are still waiting.

Sad that so many dealers are biting off their nose in an attempt to make up for lost revenue during covid losses but it's not cheap to buy and operate a dealership these days.

I'm kinda in the same boat here. I ordered a Lariat fully loaded (Lux, FX4, 4k, Tonneau, and Moon Roof) back in Oct 2021 for $37,985. Ford pushed mine to 2023 order for $38,335 for the same except for no Tonneau cover and Touchlink Bed Lighting. Difference is $1510...

20222023Diff
Lariat AWD $25,490$27,955$2,465
Group 500A$3,305$2,220-$1,885
Lariat Lux$3,340$2,610-$730
Co-Pilot360$540$650$90
Co-Pilot360 Asst$0$750$750

Here is a kicker, I bought the same Lariat I had ordered (expect for no 4k Tow) back in Jul 2022... My thought is if the dealer doesn't do any markups I will sell my 2022 and take ownership of the 2023.

Already have some Auto Brokers wanting to buy either of them... But still may put it out on the open market to see what I an get for it...

****I just took delivery of a Hybrid on Saturday; that Dealership (Sarasota) was absolutely horrible to conclude the transaction in agreement with the pricing we had established last August!!

Last August, they had sent me, by email, a confirmation sheet, confirming the negotiated final price along with receiving my $2k down payment. My current address was noted on the cover sheet. Within the 3 pages (Truck build out listed, pricing parameters and a Signature page) I was to sign using a PDF with the functional use of my "mouse", adjacent to the signature was a blank area to insert my home address, which was already noted on the cover - I left it blank, the way I had received it.

So, the terse interaction that ensued was related to the fact that they stated with this issue they could not prove to FORD that I was in fact the same person at the same address. Thereby, they wanted to evoke the FORD pricing increase - adding over $2k to the deal!

***My error leaving that address area blank as I thought nothing of the matter, since the cover sheet had the correct address. (I am so glad that I keep materials relevant to purchases!!) ***

ALL of this malarkey while concluding the transaction over the an errant physical address left blank on the signed page. Which did not agree with the address on my D License and the address to which I was attesting to align to my purchase and registration. And this was surfacing now, when they had my address disclosed on the cover sheet and my D License... from the beginning, when I paid the $2k down payment.

Since the Ford paperwork (which they had submitted) to push through the order to Ford, all listed my former address, they indicated that they could not provide Ford legitimate proof of the same buyer making the purchase of this Hybrid. They were demanding (yes in a very ugly nonprofessional manner) that I concede to the $2,000 increase.

Of course, I argued that the paperwork I signed to, indicated on the header my correct address, as well I had indicated that the "handwritten" insert of my former address was NOT on the sheet I had sent back to them, via email, along with my $2k down payment. I even retrieved the documents, which I had sent over 2 days prior to the sales rep, and the evidence was clear - when I returned my signed copy there was NO INSERT of my former residential address. It was a very obvious that the incorrect address, was inserted by ink pen AFTER my signed documents were sent back to the sales rep!!!

AFTER nearly an hour of arguing... the Sales Manager, not a pleasant person at all, then leaned into me and stated, "we will agree to eat this price difference" - as though I was going to feel some form of empathy or shame!?!? No way, I was so glad to have victoriously walked away with the deal I had signed up to transact!

If you are reading this and you are wondering about the Ford Dealership located in Sarasota Ford - specifically downtown area. I highly recommend that you avoid that dealership!! Their salespeople were horrible from the beginning. (I only continued with them because one of their reps with a cool calm demeaner reached out to me last year, after I had already walked away - he seemed trustworthy and I decided to work with him)

I now own a wonderful Ford Maverick Hybrid, Lariat with the Lux package and the Tow package - in Alto Blue. I like it very much!

So it worked out in the end for you. Are you coming back to them for service?

No never will go back to that dealership... seems to me my best bet is to drive to Gator Ford, a bit north of me for Service. There is a high probability that I will end up selling this hybrid; I just like my Santa Cruz so much more for so many reasons... the Maverick is a great Truck; the Santa Cruz is a better option for similar Truck like qualities, but more as an SUV with an open back end.

Any chance you can compare the two "trucks" for us?
I could more easily see choosing the SC over the Maverick Ecoboost, but The Maverick Hybrid seems like a no-brainer compared to the Hyundai, for me at least.
Now I'm afraid to test drive a Santa Cruz. I don't want to find out I may be waiting for a truck, when there is a better option. Thanks!
