If a persons credit is such one had to have a dollar amount to the penny for a loan. Your credit is crap.

I've always talked with lender said I''ll need $20,000.00 plus or minus a few bucks. Answer just have dealer call us with final number.
You again have missed the point, a lender requires a signed, ratified contract. Someone can be ‘pre-approved’ for a loan with a capped value, but the lender always requires a copy of the contract..

It should not be a buyers responsibility to spend hours on the internet to avoid getting fucked over. A buyer should not have to considers dealers 60+ miles away, when there are multiple ones closer.
And a tiger should not bite your hand if you stick it in the cage to pet it. But it does. We make our decisions based on reality, not what should be.

An actual purchase order filled out and signed by both the customer AND the sales manager. Not the order summary sheet we all got
This Maverick is my 9th new vehicle I have purchased. I am 65 years of age. Not once have I had to make sure the purchase order is signed by both myself and the sales manager when I ordered a vehicle. So, these 'mark-up' adjustments are 'new' due to the times we currently live in. Going forward, I will have the purchase order signed by myself and the sales manager when ordering a new vehicle. To say those who get burned by some dishonest dealership is their fault is not accurate, this too is due to the times we currently live in. Just my opinion.

@Johnkn and @olderbudwiser what are you 2 bickering about? Not everyone gets a signed purchase agreement at the time of ordering. Good for you if you did.

No one has financed a car without a signed contract.

I think you guys are talking about 2 different things.

When I was working at Ford I used DFCU. All I needed to do was tell them I was buying a car and would need a loan. Question how much approximately. ??

When you go to pickup it up have finance guy call us.

It was that easy.

All this signed crap people think they need. UGH. Bad credit requires more scrutiny.

This has nothing to do with credit. Even if the finance guy calls your bank, at some point you have to sign a promissory agreement of some sort. It's a contract. They don't just hand out money without so much as your signature regardless of your credit score.

Yup when you go to pick up vehicle there is lots of papers to sign, No disagreement there.

Dealer calls credit union, sticks number in. Done. CU guarantees money all good. Out the door. Happens all the time, at least for me it did.

LOL, I'm not bickering. Without some sort of a signed purchase agreement at time of order stating the net price (or discount off of final MSRP) and other terms, the net price at the time of vehicle delivery is hearsay and that's how some unscrupulous dealers unfortunately operate. It seems we unfortunately see that every week here.....

take care

So whose responsibility is it?

Do you know the price of a house When writing a contract to purchase?

How about a loaf of bread?
Ford to ensure their dealers uphold their brand and reputation. Ford to ensure it is easy to get dealer to fulfill price protection.

Terrible Analogies.

Do I order a custom loaf of bread a year in advance, and the grocery store tells me they can't promise the price until the Baker bakes it and it is on the way ? Oh well in the last 12 months due to inflation, the bakers had some inflation and grain price issues, so they raised the price of bread a few times. But that's ok, the Grocery store can reduce the price for me, then get reimbursed by the baker 45 days after they confirm I bought the loaf of bread I ordered. Grocery store manager is like...screw that. It is a bread shortage, I can sell this for 20% more to someone else, so either they can take it at the current price, and I pocket the bakers refund, or I will turn around and sell it for way more than the bakers refund would net me.

On lot vehicle, different story.

If I was buying a house, it already exists. So again, different story. If I was getting a custom built house, my prices don't come from the lumber yard and the hardware store, they come from the contractor ( who 100% would raise the price after signing a contract, my parents saw this during COVID ).

Dealers are 100% taking advantage of scarcity, and they know that someone will overpay if you pass, with minimal to no penalty by Ford.

I have a signed invoice that the dealer told me is no good. Who TF has the time, money, and energy to fight a dealer ? Lets assume they gave me signed paperwork, and told me to pay or take a hike. What is the time and energy cost to me, and what do I get out of it ? Right now, truth be told you are buying on trust, no one is suing a dealer if they breach an agreement. I also bet you signed a non-arbitration in your paperwork, that they sneak in there ( I just caught one in mine they did NOT disclose or show to me whatsoever, and stuck my electronic signature on it )

Dealers are screwed once the market corrects. Every one that pulled this crap will reap what they sow.

NCFU just asked for the VIN and cut me a check to whatever I wanted, a ballpark of the price. They didn't care about seeing anything until the deal was done, but obviously had a limit of what they would cut a check for. Funny enough, it was $19 short at the dealer, I paid out of pocket, and a month later got a $19 check from that dealer.

Ford can only do so much when state laws and contracts govern their relationships with dealers. Stop buying from crappy dealers and the market will take care of itself.
I saw it on here, but part of their teeth in dealers acting in bad faith is their franchise agreement with Ford.

BUSINESS PRACTICES, ADVERTISING AND PROGRAMS. The Dealer shall
conduct DEALERSHIP OPERATIONS in a manner that will reflect favorably at all
times on the reputation of the Dealer, other Company authorized dealers, the
Company, COMPANY PRODUCTS and trademark and trade names used or claimed by the Company or any of its subsidiaries.
The Dealer shall avoid in every way any "bait", deceptive,
misleading, confusing or illegal advertising or business practice. The Company
shall not publish or employ any such advertising or practice or encourage any
dealer or group of dealers to do so.

Agreed, and I am still going to end up positive at the end of this, but this dealer will not see my business again. I learned with my wallet, as I assume every dealer is the tiger unless they have established a reputation for not.
