The entire ordering process and the supply chain constraints makes this a huge mess. This is crappy all around. Just ranting and throwing some random thoughts out here…

I don’t even know if the dealer I put my deposit in for my build will even be given an allocation amount for me to make the cut and actually get a maverick. If I do make the cut then great, but how long is it going to take to get the maverick I order?

Then the thought that’s running through my head is…. well my maverick build is ~$37,500 plus tax title and tags. I’m into the $42k-ish range now… should I just get myself into a mid size truck at this point which would have and be more capable with some off road features on it than what the mav has to offer.

I really like to 2023 GMC Canyons, but with all the options I add onto the 2022 build it brings it up to the high $40k to low 50 range and I am sure the pricing for the ‘23’s will be a bit higher and now I’m into the full size truck pricing at this point so do I just suck it up and go big and bite the bullet?

I test drove a Toyota Tundra SR5 base model with the CrewMax cab and it was very nice, priced at $52k…. but the scumbag dealer is adding on $6,200 markup over MSRP “to help give the dealership a bit more profit and help sales guys like him earn a living”

I’m not going to pay over the msrp on any vehicle. I refuse to. It’s ludicrous to even imagine paying over the msrp.

Buy a new vehicle, in a normal market would depreciate $5,000 as soon as you drive it off the lot. You pay $6,200 over the msrp for it, so now technically your $11,200 in the hole right out of the gate, right?. All hypothetically speaking of course and in a normal market. But also keep in mind Toyotas hold their resell value pretty well so if you wanted to sell your new Toyota it would basically sell for what you bought it for less the $6,200 markup you got ripped off on.

But Toyota has the market by the cajones because I don’t know of them offering any special pricing through any type of job incentive and they are built to last and they know this.

I’m not discounting any truck here. I just want to buy a good truck when it’s the right time that is going to last and be reliable. I also don’t want to regret getting something that might cost a few more bucks now.

I’m not sure if my current car is going to last the time it will take to potentially ever see a maverick. So I most likely will be forced to eventually make a move on a truck if my car decides to die.
If that's where you find yourself, I don't think I would wait. My dad always said necessity seldom gets a bargain. You would at least have a good chance to shop it if you don't wait for your vehicle to die. I think it's better to not rush and choose then be put in a position to need one immediately.

Every situation is different. I'm driving a vehicle I'm surprised is still alive, but my wife has a 2020 Escape and I work from home. So that vehicle isn't a necessity. As such, I'm only going to be disappointed if the Maverick doesn't show up in time to take my scouts up to NC for summer camp in June. Otherwise, I don't need it until then. I'm also not wanting to spend a fortune on another truck that will be a glorified paperweight when the Maverick is large enough to suit my needs.

To me, at the end of the day, less expensive is less expensive. I don't need a large truck and have the flexibility to wait. But I understand not everyone can do that.

I have a couple friends who own a Tacoma and loves it beyond their thought the back seats could be a little larger for their kids. If you aren't happy with that dealer, find another one. They are a dime a dozen.

Agreed. For my house, a $22k truck, that will likely get 4k miles max per year, to replace the wife’s old 4Runner, it is the selling point for us.
I ordered an XLT hybrid, and that's the life it's going to live - sitting in the driveway most of the time

Have you test driven a newer Ranger? I don't see why anyone orders a Maverick EB over a Ranger. If you are getting close to 40k, a Ranger is going to be a better truck anyway.
FYI, there is NO NEW RANGER for North America yet. It won't be revealed until probably 1st quarter 2023. The "2023" Rangers available are the same 10 year old 5G platform. I ordered a Maverick over the Ranger because I don't like the current model and wanted a COMPACT truck, not a Mid-Size.

Those who ordered first ...like in June July 2022, waited 6 to 8 months, a number of them waited 12 months....if you are concerned about reliability of a current vehicle - you might be advised to move along.

I do like the Maverick XLT and I'm glad I waited 8 months.
I guess I want to say I’m frustrated at this point because I just don’t know if I made the cut for allocation and if I did it’s just a waiting game. Either my car will break down first or the maverick will be built and

What you say is true. I just bought my wife a brand new 2022 GMC Yukon. She was driving around a 2012 VW Routan which was great when I bought it used with low mileage. The vehicle went downhill very quickly. The vehicle was acting very strange a year before the problems started. It would just shut off when she was driving, sometimes it wouldn’t start. The dealership couldn’t figure out the problem. Two VW dealerships later and they went around and tightened up all the grounding points on it and that seemed to help. Earlier this year the thermostat housing cracked, then the water pump blew, then the transmission was acting up and the check engine light was coming on. There are two rear sliding doors, the passenger one got stuck 6” open and wouldn’t shut at all. I had to force it shut. I was tired of the headache so it was time to get rid of it and have her drive something new and reliable.

But I too have two sons in scouts and my daughter in girl scouts and would like my own truck to be able to just throw camping gear or whatever in the bed of the truck and go. I also have a cabin in upstate PA that I do not feel comfortable driving my car there in any type of weather other than sunny and dry. Every time I go up there I have to rely on a friend and his truck or my brother in law and his truck. It’s getting annoying.

I can definitely wait a few more months tho. I was planning on waiting until after the holidays and the new year to get into something. Hoping within fingers crossed the mav would be built and delivered by then but i think i’m being super optimistic and have very high hopes.

I was going to wait until the holidays pass and we get into the new year to get into something new unless the maverick is built and delivered by that time. Definitely keeping all my options open tho.

I have not. My neighbor near my cabin bought one because he couldn’t get a maverick. They are nice but I’m not a fan of the way the front end looks. Yes I know now I’m being picky, but if I’m going to spend money I really want to get something I totally love. I think the redesign is going to be rolled out in the 2024 models and look similar to the maverick.

My expectation was to get an early order in and wait maybe 6-9 months. If Ford can’t make that happen they have no business opening orders up. I will just buy something else and if my order is ever built I will sell it to some dumb a$$ who will pay 20% over msrp.

Toyota is sinking fast along with GM. Just check out there latest sales and net profit reports. Probably the best advice is if you don't need a new truck at the moment just wait out the market. Sooner or later it will stabilize. Used car prices are already falling.
I do have some time to wait. I was going to wait out the holidays and get into the new year to get something of the maverick isn’t done by then. But then like I said now I’m thinking about the $ and possibly getting something more capable than the maverick.

Bottom line for me is figuring out what the best off road capable truck is that doesn’t feel cheap and still has decent gas mileage that I can fit a family of 5 in and not feel crammed and have enough room for gear.

That’s not a bad idea and those types of people are definitely out there.

and honestly maybe by that time i could talk my wife into getting rid of her prius and keeping the maverick. I guess my point is its hard to predict what you will need a year from now, especially with kids.

I ordered a Mav in June of 2021. At the time I had an Accord that should have lasted me until the new truck came in. In June of 22 I was rear ended and the car was totaled. I ended up buying an older beater Accord to get me through (that was not fun as people were asking big money for what would ordinarily be $2000 cars.) My Mav is supposed to come in two weeks.

I see you are in NJ - if you need a 2007 beater Accord Sedan to tie you over I may have one available shortly. If I had to do it over again I would have bought something else. 16 months waiting. I met, got engaged and got married in less than 16 months.
That’s what I am driving now. A 2007 accord. I beat the heck out of this car too. I only have changed the oil in it on a regular, put a new a/c condenser in it and had to change out the alternator on it since I took it over when my wife was originally driving it. It has 255,000 miles on it now. I’ve been driving it for like 12 years now. The check engine light comes on it seems like every 3 days for some p1009 code and turns off after some time. It must have burned through oil at some point bc like 8 months ago the red oil light came on, so i checked it, recently after an oil change I may add, and it was bone dry. So i always carry 4 q in my trunk and filled it up.

other than that i’ve caught air twice with it on the road and off road, ran over two deer completely tore them to shreds, had a deer jump over the car as I was driving toward it and it was flooding at work and literally drove it through an overflowing river where the water was up over the hood of the car and as deep as the driver windows - i couldn’t believe it. Doing that did manage to tear the plastic rivets that held some plastic type of shield under the car. The car has done it’s time and has taken a lot of abuse from me. A buddy was so impressed knowing what my car has gone through he bought a newer accord as a commuter car after he totaled his hyundai on route 1 hitting a large buck. Now we use that car as target practice.

I built a Ranger almost exactly like the maverick I ordered and the ranger was another 9k over the Maverick
