Are you sure about that? Who did you check with?

I suspect he can get $33k if he shops it around enough.

Very sure. They’ve been dropping p hard.

not saying they can’t convince a person to overpay, but dealers and places like carvana aren’t offering ridiculous prices anymore. The above vin comes to 24k for me with a Cali zip code using carvana

Carvana is far from the only game in town. He has plenty of options, and if he's smart he will explore them all.

Sorry, too funny ,,,,, $11k over monroney?!!!! Just may take longer to sell a base model hybrid. Good starter vehicle for a high schooler or first year college student, but as a parent, maybe $4-5k over.

So are you going to take delivery and purchase it, THEN sell it to the highest bidder? Just curious ....

Don’t forget this seller must first purchase and pay sales tax and dmv. This adds about $2,500 -$2,800 to sticker price. I have the xl with an ecoboost I got for below sticker and got no offers asking $10k over, but did not try hard. We have popular trucks but people are going to be suckers.

Mikey,

The gov loves flips because of the income tax you will have to pay. Plus the local gov gets a windfall of receiving sales tax twice in a row.

The DMV reports the transaction so after paying $2000+ in sales tax when you sign the contract, you can't avoid your short term capital gain which is taxed as ordinary income on both your Fed and State returns. Expect to give back 30% - 40% of your profit.

And unless you pay cash, the finance co will not release title until its paid off. So you could not sell to a PP for full price. You have to sell to flippers Carmax or Carvana who offer wholesale and sell at retail. You end up giving away a few thousand of your equity to them.

I live in HB, and with gas prices at $7+ in SoCal, you will save a lot more in fuel costs over the years keeping the Maverick you waited so long for, rather than getting a short term profit that you have to report on your taxes.

I have 2 Mavericks on my channel because I ordered long ago. Spreading out the miles will make them last twice as long. I have a lot of driving demos to better understand the Mav. I hope this helps you.

A "Private Party Sale" is an entire different world from selling to a dealership or auction house or reseller like Carvana. Ever compare the KBB esitmates for Private Party versus selling to a dealership? There is a reason the Private Party is a lot higher.....

And I’m saying those same resellers WERE offering 10k over a few months ago.

now they aren’t. Are you claiming carvana buying up as many Mavericks as they did at inflated prices didn’t affect the market? You don’t think them offering only 24k now for a hybrid xl will do the exact same thing in the other direction? I also clearly mentioned he may be able to convince someone to buy it.

Just saying that asking $33,000 OBO on a 22k MSRP might be a tough sell, but that there is a buyer for every vehicle, and a private party sale is going to net more than selling to a dealership or other organization that is going to then resell it themselves. Nothing more and nothing less. Just like there is a buyer for every property, regardless of the property condition or price being asked.
