Auto hold and auto stop/start are two different things. The first can be readily switched on or off at the driver's discretion, the second cannot without an aftermarket gizmo.
I am aware of auto start/stop and how it works. In fact, I've figured out how to get the engine to kick back on at a traffic light based on how much pressure I put on the brake peddle. But the auto hold is an optional setting. I didn't know it persisted or was useful beyond the drive thru line.Auto Hold setting is persistent. It relieves the need to hold down the brake pedal when stopped. It'll automatically switch to the parking brake as needed.
Auto Start/Stop (EcoBoost only) defaults to On every time.
Drive Mode defaults to Normal every time.
Headlights default to Auto every time.
Auto High Beams setting is persistent.
