I have an XL Hybrid with only a few thousand miles on it and I generally love it. I have noticed, however, that sometimes the transmission kinda 'lurches' into gear. Yes, I know CVT and all that but I'm guessing you know what I mean. I put it in drive and it just sits there until I touch the gas then it takes about 2 seconds before it will lurch forward. Same thing with reverse.

Is this common?

8K on my hybrid and that never has happened. Hopefully your situation is rectified.

Sounds like you may have the brake hold feature enabled.
I didn't even think to check that. Good thought.

Agreed. Chances are what you're feeling is the brakes releasing once you sufficiently depress the gas (go?) pedal. There's nothing about the hybrid HF45 transmission that would feel like that from a stop - the electric motor provides instant, smooth acceleration. It just spins up and you go.

Auto Hold remains on from one drive to the next (until you turn it off). It applies any time you depress the brake sufficiently while stopped, including when shifting out of Park, unless you immediately let off the brake to start to roll forward.

When I drove my truck away from the dealer, I was like, "What the hell is wrong with this thing!?!?" I'm embarrassed that it took me two days to figure out the dealer left it activated. I suppose that it's useful it certain circumstances, but it really threw me for a loop until I figured it out.

Doesn't the brake hold turn off with the vehicle? I have it in the Escape and have used it maybe a handful of times but I never considered that there was a way to override it by pressing the gas and just leaving it on all the time.

On the Maverick I rented, no, it stayed on. I had same thought when I first got in until I realized what it was.

No, it remembers your last setting when you start the vehicle. I like the feature so I leave it enabled all the time. Accelerating, will disengage it.

Huh. I have only ever used it in the Taco Bell drive thru. I have never left it on. I'll have to play around with it later this evening.

Auto Hold setting is persistent. It relieves the need to hold down the brake pedal when stopped. It'll automatically switch to the parking brake as needed.

Auto Start/Stop (EcoBoost only) defaults to On every time.

Drive Mode defaults to Normal every time.

Headlights default to Auto every time.

Auto High Beams setting is persistent.

Auto hold and auto stop/start are two different things. The first can be readily switched on or off at the driver's discretion, the second cannot without an aftermarket gizmo.
