Performance Wheels? (aggressive street wheel and tire setups)

Hey all,

It seems there are a handful of you that are going the performance route and I think the Maverick platform will be a fun little truck to mod.
I'm not finding many aggressive street wheel and tire setups yet. I'm sure they'll come as time goes on, but this is what I'm shooting for. Maybe a wheel similar to this. Anyone else going this direction or have any ideas?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 2.0 ecoboost is a lot more stout than the bigger ecoboosts. It's the only closed deck block in the family which can hold a lot more power. I'm not going to go crazy as I have an Evo X for that but i think this truck will be fun. Crossing my fingers for my build date.

After my warranty is up if the miles are still low I wouldnt mind turning it up to about 400hp. That would be fun. But I would prefer a more rally type suspension instead of lowered.

This is 100% the route I’m going. I have been making contact with some various suppliers and manufacturers including weld and enkei trying to nail down if they have anything coming up also.

Tire rack has a couple nice looking sporty choices, but none of them are aggressive fitments or very wide. I’ve been considering trading in my stock tires (used for 15 miles to get it home) for the pilot sports that discount tire (or tire discounters, I get them confused) Carrie’s in our stock size and rocking that setup next summer.

Ultimately I want a sport truck wheel/tire setup, bolt one and tune, and quality mild drop and I’ll be pretty happy.

Great looking wheel, hard to say on the 9.5 width though, that will probably stick out up front close to an inch. I'd think 19x8.5 with a ~255/50R19 would look pretty meaty on a slightly lowered setup. Maybe 255/55R19 if staying stock height to help fill the wheel wells up.

Konig Oversteer 19x8.5 +42 offset 23.65 lbs

Konig Myth 19x8.5 +40 offset 23.14 lbs

I ended up going with some heavy cast 20s that are about 30 lbs each, similar to the RTR. Wish I'd have done more research up front. I'll likely switch my setup out in the near future knowing what I know now. Love the look of 21s most but I'd like a little more sidewall (because old), so I'm leaning towards 19s with a 255/55r19 with the mild version of H&R springs for a slight drop. I think it should look pretty aggressive.

Good point. I've been down that road with my Fiesta ST and re-drilled my hubs for Miata wheels and also have Enkeis for my EVO. Lightweight is definitely the way to go but I'm not seeing many options.

I was doing a lot of research on this before doing my wheel and tire setup and what I found is that tire selection is going to be your limiting factor. If you're okay with a high performance all season, then 18 inch wheels are great as far as weight, availability, price, and size go. If you want a real summer/performance tire, you need to step up to at least a 20 inch wheel. 19's are in a weird spot where any real performance tire will be slightly lower diameter than stock, and any good high performance all season (like DWS-06+) is available on 18's much more easily.

I would recommend finding a tire size that has a selection of tires you like, and then finding wheels from there that fit it. I went 245/55r18 and 235/60r18 seems to be a popular choice for 18's. 245/45r20 seems to be the go-to starting point for 20's.

If you plan on lowering, keep your rear fender and offset in mind. The rear fender kind of slopes up at the top and if you lower it with too little offset you'll have to trim it or you'll rub. I'm running a 245 on a +30 offset which means my inner tire is only 3mm closer than stock to avoid this. A spacer in the rear would help with this too if you have too little offset.

This is my setup. Claimed ~20 lbs/wheel. The 245 DWS-06+'s offer as much grip as I could reasonably need on the street and it's nice to now I'm covered in the case of poor weather. I'm also just not really a fan of skinny tires on 20's and wanted to keep some meat. I think it'd look a lot better lowered but I'm waiting maverick specific springs to be available.

Your truck looks good so far even without the springs. I have been trying to stay clear of 19s for the reasons you've mentioned. I know most people are going for lifted but this platform is much better suited for a street setup. I'm glad to see more people going in this direction.

That looks great! It's crazy how different some 18s look. Others I've seen look too small but this looks really good even stock height. I'm wondering if it's because most of the other 18s I've seen have been black wheels, making them look smaller.

I'm still thinking about the 19s just to be different, but now I'm second guessing the 255/55r19 tire. I like how stuffed the wheel wells are on @Canyon Racer, as he's on 255/50r20. Now I'm thinking maybe I go 245/55R19 and be right in the middle of your two setups. Would be a cool comparison to see all three setups together. 18", 19" & 20"

Excellent points about tire sizes though. Can be tricky to find a good tire depending on size.

I read that the Mav 2.0t has forged internals (forged steel crank and powder forged rods) which in my experiences, are probably good for like 350-400hp before the pistons give out.. cant wait to get a hold of mine and start the R&D process.. shooting for the highest hp FBO mav by spring/summer 2023
