I just passed 900 miles and I was hit by a FedEx semi. The best thing is, he took off. Luckily someone took a pic of the trailer and got a trailer number so I will eventually find the driver. I was in the right lane, he was in curb lane. The curb lane ended he continued next to me and merged onto me with his 2 rear tiers of the tractor. The damage to the A pillar has me thinking its going to be totaled.

I'm a CDL driver too and it's guys like that that give us all a bad name. We're supposed to be professionals. Sorry to see your truck damaged and hope nobody got hurt.

You saw his curb lane ending but didnt realize he might come over on you?
In almost all circumstances, the merging lane has to yield to existing traffic. While it’s obviously polite (and occasionally necessary to avoid an accident) to let someone into the flow of traffic, it’s not always possible. Since we don’t know the complete circumstances of the OPs situation, laying blame on him is premature. That said, I’m also hoping that he didn’t use his new Maverick to play chicken with a merging semi, even if he was in the right!

Looks to me like the FedEx driver forgot he was pulling the longer trailer and when he pulled over he thought he had enough room.

Will that person lose their CDL because of hit and run?

Hit and run is a serious offense. If it can be proven, then most likely yes. Same as with your regular license.

She is totaled. On the bright side this happened just in time to order a 23 model

Shame! I would up with the Maverick after we had our 2021 Trailblazer totaled out by someone who ran a light, was hit and ran into us. Nightmare! Out of state without a car when you could not get one. That was the biggest issue. No trailblazer’s or new cars available that were suitable for us. We were very lucky to land our Maverick but it did costs us in the end even though we would up a better suited vehicle for us. The hassle sucked!

The laws of physics don't care about the rules of the road.

Doesn't matter if you're right if you're dead right.

Don't hang out next to other vehicles, especially semis, for longer than necessary.

If you know that someone is likely to want to or have to get over, give them room to do it. Put yourself in front of or behind them, not next to it.

Not gonna comment specifically on OP's crash without seeing dash cam video from the incident, but in general, crashes like this are easily avoidable.

Also I don't even know if this was ~900 miles or ~9000 miles. "Curb lane" would generally be the outside, right lane, where OP claims to have been...

I know most folks here will disagree with me, but I think it will be a Very Good Thing when human drivers are replaced with computers. Americans are slaughtering other Americans on the road at almost 50,000 per year. Weapon of choice: the automobile. Drunk driving. Drugged driving. Road Rage. Sleepy. Angry. Eating fast food. Texting. The list of human fallacies is endless. Give me a computer any day.

We got a new General Manager for a Company I worked at. The guy was a jerk basically an entitled moron. When going to work one day I see his car pinned at a 45 degree angle between a tractor traler and a light pole. No one was hurt and gave me a chuckle. He lasted about 3 months before he was fired. I am sure he tried to beat the truck that was making the turn. But accidents do happen not criticising.
