So I bit the bullet and ordered the Snug Top through my local Leer dealer, with a quoted lead time of 2-4 months. It will have Leer badging instead of Snug Top, but it's the same thing/same options (or lack thereof). I went and talked to my local A.R.E. dealer as well and messed around with a few of their floor models for other trucks. I wasn't overly impressed with the build quality (compared to Leer toppers I've always had), or the prices and lead times they quoted for a topper similar to the Snug Top. Especially without even having a picture of the Maverick models. I'm also to the point where I need to get something on order - I don't want to be going into hunting season without a topper.

I also ordered it in matte black instead of cyber orange. My thought is that it'll just about match the black plastic edging all around the bed and also maintain the "truck" look. I'm also thinking that while I wait for it to arrive I'll vinyl wrap the roof of the cab in matte black as well to kind of mimic the hardtop look of a Bronco or Jeep.

Yeah our granger order is gonna come in sooner or later and we need a cap at purhase or we will never get one on maui. Only caveat is we need decent load capacity racks, so it ARE or nothing I guess.

Was your cost better than ordering it with the truck? The $3400+ tag to get it from Ford is a dealbreaker for me

It was the same, but there's not much to choose from. On paper the A.R.E. options are cheaper, but aren't as nicely equipped. Once you add the options to make an A.R.E. similarly equipped, they're just as expensive or even a little more. New toppers for other truck models have nearly doubled since I bought my last one 4 years ago, but I think that's just the state of things right now.

I'm going to have to call other Leer dealers out of my area, I think. I called two in Portland, and one could only sell Snugtop (in OEM colors), and the other would do either brand - but only in OEM colors, no matte black.

Well I mean it's really the same topper, just different badging. The colors I think depends on where they send it for finishing. I got the impression that my local dealer gets them brought in primed, then they send it out locally for paint, and they complete the assembly.

Yes it's the same top, but the one dealer said they only can order the Snugtop and cost is $3449, while the other said they can order the Leer for about $3,200. I'm guessing they get them prefinished being both said OEM colors only.

I'm going to call Seattle area dealers and see if they have any other options color wise. Slight pain for me though, seeing as I don't live up there...

Edit: I'm going to call the dealer back who said $3,200 installed for a Leer, and tell him I'm ready to place an order if he can get matte. Maybe he'll discover he can...

I called two more local Leer dealers.

One said there aren't any toppers available, expect it in July.

The other said we have to order an OEM Leer color - not OEM Ford. He said he probably sells more matte black caps than any other color. The matte black color he orders for customers is a Jeep OEM match.

Now I'm just debating if I want to wait longer and see about a cap that doesn't rise above the cab height, or say fuckit and order it...

Well, 2-4 months turned into 20 days. I got the call today that my topper is ready, getting it installed tomorrow! The downside is that I didn't have time to wrap the roof of the cab yet, but I can deal with that later. The next challenge is going to be how to carry the canoe with the topper installed.

Just got home from getting the topper installed, and it looks great! So far I've got zero complaints. They wired it up so the bed light switch in the cab and the accessory panel in the bed work to turn on the cap light (typically on it's own switch). The matte black matches the plastic trim perfectly.

Looks fantastic. Ties in the tires/wheels and trim very nicely...

That looks good! I like it much better than color matched. The two height variances don't bug me at all! I think you just cost me $3,250!

I like that. What’s the solution for the canoe? I have one about that size I need to carry.

That's the one thing I haven't figured out just yet. First try I'm going to see if I can find a Yakima clip that works with the shape of the rear window on the topper and move one cross bar to the topper.
