I would like to be able to find the part number for the cable, anyone here from Ford parts that could look it up?

The closest that I could find is #7 on the diagram below, and I am not sure if it is indeed the cable in question.

#7 is part # NZ6Z14305B, described as "2.5L HARNESS, WIRING ASSEMBLY - ALTERNATOR"... BUT, the Hybrid does not have an alternator...

Good thread...the way to tell if you have the defect would be to put DVM on battery cable at junction block on vdc scale, wiggle cable/connection under hood and watch for voltage drop at battery cable junction block.

I still think i am going to dismantle, and inspect/ohm connections.

That was my thought. When Ford decided to go for a sub 20k hybrid, with high mileage, they started cutting cost and weight. Aluminum cable and recycled plastic, what a great way to save cost and increase mileage with weight reduction. Most of us bought because it was a low cost truck with great mileage and are paying the price because the execution by Ford is less than stellar.

ford dealerships are getting calls everyday for the maverick.. same answers.. we don't have any in stock, but we can take your name..

anyway, i plan to do some road trip in july with my hybrid xlt lux, so i bought a couple of clamps, a small iron, cutting tools, tapes, and few extra tools.. just in case. If i don't have the right tools.. ill probably use the forum to borrow some tools.. so i won't have to leave it to some random dealer 2000 miles away from my house.

It's sad when you have to even consider doing that - that's the kind of cr-- you do when you're taking your old 20 years old beater on a long trip, filling up the tool box with all kinds of 'what if' paraphenalia.....not when you just bought a brand new ride, that's what a lot of us are trying to get away from...

It would be #4 on your pic

LX6Z14290PA would be the part number for it, and of coarse it is on back order.

No thanks.... That's not why you buy a new vehicle. You expect a new vehicle to be reliable... That's a big reason you buy a new vehicle.. I don't have to take anything with me in my current 15 year old suv...

Could you also provide the same kind of exploded view diagram for Ford P/N: LX6Z10C679B? ... I'm just curious to see what the diferences are between "LX6Z14290PA" & "LX6Z10C679B" ... thanks.

LX6Z-10C679-B is just on the battery and is your grounding cable.

If your truck gets this problem report it to the national highway administration like any other safety issue.

Enough complaints now and then if the issue translates from dead battery to fire later in life it’s more likely to get addressed and a recall

Sadly these issues take years before they get a recall and get none at all if you don’t lodge complaints

Ford hasenough flaming F150s that a harness concern should drive more scrutiny

Hope Ford turns this into a recall or fix when I take mine in for service.
A recall can really only come from the government and Ford doesn’t want one, if they have a campaign instead of a recall they can selectively charge customers for the problem

Thanks for your info, very helpful. I would guess that the eventual Ford "fix" is not going to involve replacing that entire cable, looks like it would be a major undertaking to say the least. More than likely it seems that they will come up with some sort of method to repair the bad end connector.

I wonder if the "bad" end of the LX6Z14290PA cable comes apart anywhere where just the last section could be replaced - providing that Ford has updated the cable with a more secure terminal at the end.

Thanks for the tip! Just ordered as well....what is the acceptable range we should be looking for? Below what reading would you suspect an issue is brewing?
Anything under 11.5 shows at least one bad cell if it won't go to 12.2 when engine is off, be prepared for a bad battery.

If the voltage is jumping all over the place, the cable may need replacing. Someone could wiggle the cable with the car in accessory mode while you watch the voltage.

Helpful Reference used Industry Wide.
