With the hybrid battery cable in question, i went under the hood to make sure i knew exactly how to energize the Mav. I recomend anyone who hasnt checked out where/how to connect jump box to do so by the owners manual.

What i saw on mine is the positive connection is on the front side of the fuse box under a red plastic cover. The red cover is a little tough to remove and access is to the engine side. I would recomend at least identify if not remove the red plastic cover, just in case we need to jump it. Hope this helps anyone out there in the hybrid family.

Ok, glad i did this in my shop and not on the road somewhere where we saw 109° today.

I highly recomend hybrid owners to check out and familiarize themselves with the underhood charge/jump points. The owners manual states to jump the 12v system from under the hood at the designated points.

What they dont tell you is that there is a red plastic cover over the positive post in front of the fuse box on the left front frame member. So i wrangled with the red plastic cover for 5 minutes as the clip was to the front of the cap. After finally removing the cap, i see its just as easy to remove by pushing down on the red cap while tilting it forward.

Underneath was a threaded post, which gave me an idea as a point to grab unswitched power point for future accessories and powered modifications.

One could even attach a battery charger connection.

I think a 12v permanent meter is in store for me so i can keep an eye on the 12v condition until we can get a grip on this 12v wiring problem. I am eying that cubby hole next to the entertainment screen. A nice digital volt meter...

Any input is appreciated

Thanks Mach 1 for confirming that the positive jump start lug is threaded. If we ever do get Pappy, I'll need to add cables for our 2000 watt inverter that presently turns out Escape Hybrid into a generator when we need one. We use quick connects so the vehicle stays wired and we just plug in the inverter.

Where do you pick up the HVB - the jump start plug is only low volt -12V You can't run 2KW inverter off that?

I was thinking of getting this it’s a simple not permanent fix.

With the system "drive ready" (green light on the dash) on our 2011 Escape Hybrid, we've run power tools off the 2000 watt/4000 peak inverter. The engine starts when it needs to. I'm not sure, but I think it pulls power from the high voltage battery. So far, so good. If someone knows of a specific harm this is causing, please let me know.

We built a chicken coop and a shed using this setup for power. I'd like to have the same option with the Maverick.

Wow. okay. I don't know if there are any Maverick engineers who can chime in here to verify the ratings of the various circuits in play here. But, this is clever. a 2000 Watt inverter is pulling at minimum 166 Amps at 12 volts and probably double that during peak of 4000 watts. The efficiency of the inverter is probably less than 80% so add at least 16 Amps to 32 amps on top of that - So MAX that's 364 Amps at 12V . The average jump start amperage appears to be about 400 Amps or less. So that sounds fine, assuming your current draw is using the same wiring that a typical jump start would cary at the jump points at the engine. The battery will give you that 400 Amps until it can't - and as soon as the Voltage drops the HVB probably starts to recharge the low volt battery. Assuming your tools are only drawing from the battery intermittently - a low duty cycle, I think the system can keep up. The engine should fire up when needed to charge the HVB. This seems ok to me, but I'm a chicken, so won't do it on my Maverick.

The cable for the inverter are 4 ga (I think). Thicker than most jumper cables. I cut the cables in the middle and added heavy duty quick connects so I can leave half the invert cable connected to the battery. Only takes a few seconds to connect.

At first, I would turn on the AC to force the engine to run but eventually found out that is not necessary. Engine starts when it needs to. Probably never pulling anywhere near 2000 Watts with a circular saw, even on startup. I have not tried this setup in continuous/power outage use.

The 12v battery is a lead acid is it not?

Unless you are a serious maker with electrical knowledge you don't want to mess with the HVB. Most commercially available 110v inverters are for 12v input.

A 2000w inverter does not pull a minimum of 166 amps. It depends on what you have plugged in. You would have to be running something using the full 2000w to be pulling 166 amps. A lot of people like to use inverters larger than what they need to never run the inverter at maximum output.

Wyouger, the 12v battery is lead acid..sealed supposedly, but has a drain/overflow hose coming out of it..its really easy to access.

I think its 470ah, raise rear seat, pull battery box top off and its sitting there looking at ya..

I don't remember the Amperage. Pro grade Porter Cable circular saw, not worm drive, run intermittently.
