It's all in the tech and required fuel delivery. With this cars getting more powerful engines the fuel required to hit 70 plus is not as hard as it was in the past. In 1998 the rangers were considered a great fuel saver. Rated 27 mpgs. It weighed as almost the same as the Mav. It had around 110 horses and no fuel saving tech except your right foot. This new truck has almost double the power in hybrid form and half the power of the 2.0 and all fuel saving tech.

If it had more than a marginal impact the auto makers would include them as standard equipment to get their overall mpg numbers up.

The highest number I saw was %6 better areo...I think it'd probably take a long time to pay for itself.

Soft covers can start rippling in the wind or direct airflow to areas it’s not wanted, disrupting aerodynamics, also no cover is completely waterproof. Obviously for my needs it has to have a box added for my chair and access to my bags, so it’s going to be custom, but my needs are likely unique

one option is going to a local canvas/awning/boat shop and getting a quote. Just say up front you want a subframe, not snaps into the truck body.

Depends on what speed at some speeds a vortex cell can form in the bed which radically changes airflow and thus the Reynolds number. That’s why lowering your tailgate can sometimes reduce gas mileage, but in general, hard tonneaus do, soft are iffy
Yeah...I think "it depends" is probably the most honest answer. On the other hand....a hard tonneau, generally adds more weight.

It's probably one of those circumstances where if you own a tonneau, it DEFINATELY increases MPGs; if you don't own a tonneau, it DEFINATELY makes no difference in MPGs.

Don't forget, hybrids offer better city fuel economy. We'll see what the EPA says. I bet it's going to be approx. 10mpg difference combined.

Also, we'll see which truck is more reliable.... Time will tell. I sure hope you knocked on wood when you said this...

That battery its only a matter of time till it's gone. I drive a 08 Truck with no problems.. The battery isn't likely to last 13 years, and I expect mine to run many more years still (it purrs). Batteries aren't just degraded by miles, but also by the calendar (actually known as "calendar wear"), the heat etc. The ICE engine OTOH can run longer than the truck.

There's no amount of gaslighting can convince me a car with two separate powertrain systems, lines going from the brakes, two sources of torque that must also then be mixed together in the correct proportion, is more reliable than one. Although, I do find it reasonable the ICE in the Hybrid is likely somewhat more reliable since it's not turbocharged, I dont think that will make up the increased failures from a second powertrain.

It is good Ford is giving the 8 mile Hybrid powertrain warranty, although I'm sure it's a law. Although I did see they can replace your battery with one of similar age and wear under that warranty rather than a new one.

It's possible as we have seen on these Mavericks 30-32 MPG on the 2.0 on the dash spycams, that in hwy driving the difference may be slim.

I think you're right about the battery being the weak point. It's likely a slow degrade in efficiency than a binary "working" or "broken." That being said, have you seen the videos of the inside of the eCVT? compare that to the 8 speed innards....It really seems like the more durable of the two proper use. (If I was towing all the time, yeah...I'd probably burn out the hybrid before the turbo)

Just bust my bubble why dont ya? Hehehe....Thats alot of drains.....BUT, weld some nuts under that maybe???????????????????????????????????????????????? I am going to DIY the hell out of this truck.,....first thing first...a holster for the center console....
Ford did say that their bed divider kit could be mounted in so they're probably using those holes for that. I'm thinking a bolt from below with a locknut above and you can drop a board on there. Knob on top for a quick way to secure the board. Or some extruded aluminum if you want to get fancy 🤪

Here is more CFD tthan you ever wanted to know. They don’t cover soft covers because any movement disrupts the actual airflow and makes the cfd much more complicated

Yeah .. That is more than I can handle... What is the TL/DR?

I think the best uses for a tonneau is covering the stuff in my truck and aesthetics.

Batteries can be replaced for a decent price and usually last for a long time.

I don't know how many times I took a taxi and the car was a Toyota Prius with over 3 or 400k miles. The craziest I had was a prius with over 580k miles. The driver told me that this was his second battery. The first one was replaced around 350k miles! I am not saying the Maverick is a prius but this shows that hybrid powertrians last as long as gas engines, if not longer. And the battery thing, I would not be too worried about, it lasts long enough and if you need to replace it at one point, you replace it and pay 1 or 2k and can drive the car for another x years and x miles!

I can say it isn’t great. I had to have it towed two or three times due to this. AAA came in handy. Mine doesn’t even have fix a flat. the hybrid battery ate up the spot where the spare would be.
What do you drive? My hybrid has a temp spare under the cargo floor.
