By the time you order all wheel drive and 4K towing package to the maverick with its mileage. It seems to me the Ranger starts making more sense with its 7,500 towing capability with a 2.3 ecoboost standard With a longer bed and only 10 inches longer overall. The Maverick makes the most sense as a 40 mpg hybrid economy car/truck with a bed. Maybe that’s why they are forcing you to buy the all wheel drive when you order 4K tow package So it won’t take away Ranger sales.

My dealer asked that your dealer post the written notice that you are referencing. He provided me
I'll try but my guess is he wiill not post it. He wouldn't let me keep it because it had the senders email name and address on it. I did see the same memo posted this morning on one of the chat sites. I just went back to look at it and it has apparently been deleted. (insert twilight zone theme)

This is for Dealerinsider to answer instead of guesses from others:
So what about the FWD with 4K towing that have been scheduled? Will they be built, or deleted from the scheduling?
None of my 50+ scheduled so far have FWD with 4k...

On point.

I have now turned my attention to the Ranger because a lariat Supercrew with the tow package is barely more expensive, yet with almost twice the tow capacity.

Because of this move by Ford (whether intentional or not), I have now bowed out from buying the Maverick.

Ordered vs scheduled 2 very different things
Exactly. After talking with my dealer, I decided to move on from my ordered FWD 4K. To me it made no difference if the reason was engineering or just the fact that the tires could not be supplied due to the shortage of raw materials. It might just be a long delay. It's just as likely the FWD 4K will not be built, at least in the foreseable future. My wife tells me I am apparently not infallible, however.

Tell her it is part of your nefarious plan To Take Over the World! And you were smart enough to start by marrying her!

Ford Maverick 2022MY Maverick will no longer offer FWD (W8E) with Trailer Tow Package (53Q). Must add AWD for 4K Towing A6E68D95-0512-44A5-890A-DCE4E438B5B2

Well if true that Ford makes the scheduled FWD with Tow packages, those Mavericks will be a rare thing indeed if Ford never makes the fwd 4k tow package in the future.

Let’s over simplify the model: you have a force pushing down on the hitch receiver and the force is great enough to take up the entire suspension travel plus a bit more including tire squat. It seems reasonable that the back wheels will act as a fulcrum and the downforce on the front end will be reduced. Reducing the friction on the front tires. In a turning situation the vehicle could understeer and cause loss of control. I should send this problem over to Dr. Woods at UTA and let him geek out over this (he is head of the Formula SAE program over there).
Yeah, but think about it, in a turning situation where grip is limited in the first place, its not too likely that the operator will be applying much throttle so AWD vs FWD wouldn't really make a difference. Recovering from throttle induced understeer is also pretty safe and easy to recover from, you just reduce throttle, as its oversteer that is more complicated to recover from and can create a fishtail snap effect.

It would however increase torque steer to some degree when on the gas hard. But that's the thing, its all a matter of degree though, and Ford's engineers would have long since factored all this in and tested it before starting production when determining tow ratings. So the fact that this was previously greenlit tells me that at 4K lbs it really wasn't an issue, however, we're already hearing about lockdown #2 in various parts around the globe causing all kinds of supply chain issues again. Temporarily limiting customers to AWD just makes sense under the circumstances, whereas making engineering and safety testing decisions this late in the game doesn't.

Sounds like no FWD with 4K package at all will be made....

i have your dora with trailer hitch, not 4k tow...
Who are you and how do you know me!?!? Lol

So wait, you have my specific info? I double checked with my sales rep and he checked with his GM and sure enough I placed in the order a 4K tow and FWD.

you got something you can send me that is different and I can talk to my dealership about this?
