I ordered the combo of the ESI ROK BLOCK gap cover along with the ESI side tailgate seal stripping for like $47-50. I am yet to install it because I'm waiting for the temperature to be warmer but I see no reason why this solution wouldn't work for what you're looking to accomplish.
Please let us know how the install goes and if you are happy with the product. I have this item saved on Amazon for when my Maverick arrives.

Found out the Sportliner used a carpet surface while the Impact is made using a light rubber-type component. @1Guy1Truck

The carpet area would be more ideal for sliding my kayak in and out. Thank you.

This could do what I need. $5 and made for outdoor use. Grippy bottom hold in place. Worth a try at the price.

So I wanted to post before I forget. But I was able to get the Rok Block seal strip installed today. Install was pretty simple. The instructions are a lot more overwhelming than the actual install. I got tired of reading and just kind of did my thing — while still following the important steps.

The side tailgate seal is still a work in progress as I was cut short on time. Also, the diagrams are just not super clear as each truck is different. So I kind of just halted the rest of that as I’m installing it how I see fit. Not sure if the adhesive will stay on the SIBL or not, but will find out eventually. There’s just some large gaps at the back side and top of tailgate that doing the suggested areas don’t necessary block the light/gaps that you can see through to the bed. So I’m trying to place it strategically to limit as much incoming water as possible. I don’t want to waste my seal so going to take some more time to plan it out. Here are pics of what I have so far…

It was the 4.25” width…definitely worth the convenience of not thinking about the gap every time you open the tailgate

Bought the BedRug Impact Bed Mat from Accessories.Ford.com (discounted of course), because I thought the same. PLUS I did not want ANYthing going down the rabbit hole.

Installed yesterday after laying it out flat (comes in box rolled up) prior to installation.
Took all of 20 minutes once the Mat was relaxed. BedRug sells it for $210, I got it for $231 (Ford retail $289), so did not mind the $21 difference (but $79, yes).

Here is the photo:

That’s the solution right there, I have one too!
