There are areas in the bed the spray on bed liner doesn’t cover. I know it’s a truck bed and it’s gonna get scratched (already did) but I am worried about the scratches rusting over time. The area of most concern is in the photo below. It’s the spot at the bottom of the tail gate. Sliding stuff in and out will do a number on this area and my kayak already scratched it. Is there something commercially available that can protect this area?

Bought the BedRug Impact Bed Mat from Accessories.Ford.com (discounted of course), because I thought the same. PLUS I did not want ANYthing going down the rabbit hole.

Installed yesterday after laying it out flat (comes in box rolled up) prior to installation.
Took all of 20 minutes once the Mat was relaxed. BedRug sells it for $210, I got it for $231 (Ford retail $289), so did not mind the $21 difference (but $79, yes).

Do you have the spray in liner under it? Originally I was looking for something that just covered the unprotected areas but I’m thinking this would stay in place very well.

Yes, I ordered the one for the SIBLiner. Edited my post to include the part number under the pic.

Since I have a SIBL, Ford Accessories sent me the bed mat having the installation kit MADE for SIBL which is only slightly different than the standard install kit as I was signed in under my Ford website account (so they can see trim level via VIN). If you order from BedRug, you must let them know if the bed has a liner and type.

Instructions say to take steel wool or sandpaper to smooth out the areas where the velcro strips will adhere. Included are 4 packets of Adhesion Promoter (not required, and NOT to be used on painted surfaces).

I ordered the combo of the ESI ROK BLOCK gap cover along with the ESI side tailgate seal stripping for like $47-50. I am yet to install it because I'm waiting for the temperature to be warmer but I see no reason why this solution wouldn't work for what you're looking to accomplish.

Great option and pricing versus the entire bed mat. So it is just a matter of choice.

If you just want to cover the gap, this product (or similar ones) is great. For SIBL, it takes 24 hours for the adhesive to cure (regardless of ambient temp, per product info) so the tailgate must be left down.

If you want to cover the gap with a bed mat, then BedRug would be a great option.

I think another great option is the ESI ROK BLOCK and the Maverick 2022 Black Bed Mat (Retails $140 on Accessories Ford.com, NZ6Z99112A15A )

This won’t work so back to the drawing board. It has a crease that needs to be halfway between the bed and tail gate gap. This would lead to the paint area on the tailgate being exposed. If I move it enough to cover the area it would barely make contact on the bed side. Also with the design of the spray in liner it has ridges right up to the edge of the bed so it’s not ideal for adhesive.

Then do what I did: BedRug Impact Bed Mat. I love mine as it does more than I wanted.
The BedRug Sportliner is $50 less at $239 (retail).

What’s the difference between the 2? The description for the sport is incorrect on the ford site and describes a truck cap.

Not sure, I forgot to ask the Accessories Rep when I called them about my order. I think the Impact is reinforced because you can place heavy loads like construction materials on it (bags, dirt, etc.)
