I went looking for the mount points BootXL76 mentioned when he mounted his LC2i Pro behind the glovebox. I think I found the location and I decided to measure and mock up a foamboard replica of the Key 200.4 in order to get everything to fit just right. Some of you may be able to work out of your head and just eyeball and and craft something elegant up, but I have to put some effort in to it, otherwise I would have a rattling box in my dash and my glovebox wouldn't close.

I took some measurements, held the foam "Key" up and starting drawing some parts and fitting, modifying, and revising. Took about three tries on the bracket mockup:

2. Foamboard mock-ups of bracket and Key 200.4

3. Foamboard bracket fit to existing bolts

4. Kicker Key 200.4 mockup pinned to bracket and glovebox door test fit for clearance

5. Once satisfied with the fit, I cut a template from MDF and pattern-routed 1/8" ABS

6. Clamped straight-edges top and bottom and heated ABS, bending it at a right-angle.

7. Bracket is a great fit for the Kicker Key 200.4

8. Bracket also will accommodate the AudioControl LC2i Pro

Attached is a .PDF for the flat-pattern template for the bracket. It can be printed (make sure PDF is printed actual size and not scaled to fit) and adhered directly to ABS and cut or used to make a template.

9. If printing full-scale template, ensure Actual Size is selected.

ABS edges are smoother if routed, but sawing is fine as this bracket will likely not be visible much.

I hope this saves someone some time. I certainly appreciate all of the advice and ideas I got from those of you that trail-blazed the audio on this vehicle.

bro this is amazing. So far I’ve had mine sitting in the glove box until I found a solution. YOU are the solution. Lmao. Yours came out fantastic too.

Feel like making another one? 😬😬

How far forward can one go before the glove box doesn't close? Would the lc7i fit in there?

Great work @Red Ryder! I'm going to try a 3D printed version sometime soon. Was there a reason for some of the contours?

I looked at AudioContol's specs for the LC7i's dimensions. The good thing is their stuff is thinner than the Key, but it is still a good sized chunk of gear to stash. There's not much room directly behind the glove box unless you go high. In fact, I'm thinking the LC7i might best be on a tray that articulates up and over the filterbox, if that makes sense. Easiest way to get a good sense of the space is to mock up something dimensionally true to what you're wanting to install and see where and how it fits. Why a foamboard mockup and not the actual item, my wife asked? Those areas are tight and it gets fatiguing try to hold and measure as opposed to taping a featherweight box in place and positioning it accordingly. You can bang them out with a metal straightedge and X-acto blade in minutes. A big sheet of that foamboad was about a buck fifty at Wal-Mart.

The spacing for the screws was determined by the existing mounting locations, I made the mounting plate sized for the above-mentioned devices. I originally drew it full-width, just a folded sheet (see lower right view in CAD photo), but it was too hard to articulate it into place.
I added the curves to eliminate stress concentration. Sharp corners greatly increase the stress concentration. This high amount of stress concentration can lead to failure of plastic parts. Probably not a huge consideration here, but just good design discipline.
And, since my flush-cut router bit is 1/2-inch diameter, I made the inside radii 1/4-inch minimum.

With a 3-D printed version, you likely won't have the sheet stress concerns and can add webbing and bosses as needed. Looking forward to seeing the results!

I hope you don’t mind, I hurriedly made a prototype tonight based off yours. I’m waiting for plug n play to get more kits in stock and then I’ll make a final version.

Everything clears just fine. I think it could use a little fine tuning, but based off the 200.4’s dimensions this is pretty much good to go.

Heck no, this is AWESOME! Yours looks great, and please tweak it, share it, refine it, keep it going.
This is what makes doing this stuff fun. Always reaching and learning.
Beautiful work!

I might be coaxed into another, but I suspect there might be a better version (.STL) available on Thingiverse at some point. ;)
