Intermittent high-pitched whining/ whisling sound?

Picked up our hybrid Maverick on Friday and have been noticing an intermittent high pitched whine sound that clearly switches on and off..loud enough to be very distinct at idle/ low speed, and still heard above road noise at highway speed. It's extremely annoying..any ideas what it might be? First thought was a loud fuel pump? Anyone else noticing this issue?

Your best bet is likely to take it to a dealership and see if the sound is normal. Keep in mind that its a partially electric vehicle, you may be hearing the whine of the electric motors as they kick on and off. Some ears are more attuned to the frequency emitted by electric motors than others. Not saying that is the case here, but its possible.

The only high pitch noise I hear is when stopping, as the regen brakes do their thing.

Half the cylinders in the engine could be not working and the dealer would tell you everything is fine. I dont trust their ability to diagnose stuff like this sound.

Hard to tell without hearing it, but likely electric components. You hear a lot of stuff when the cylinders aren't thumping away.

Please excuse me, but I have to ask. Does this only occur when the passenger seat is occupied?

If you hear a whining sound definitely see your deale ASAP as that happened on my Cmax hybrid and it was the transmission going bad.

They're legit. Official account to observe the general sentiment and identify potential problems with vehicle or shady dealerships.

I hear a high pitch sound when both engine and motor are engaged, not present when running only in electric, charging etc.

I hear a high pitched sound when BOTH the electric motor and engine are engaged. I do not hear it when I am in electric, charging, or ice only mode. The noise is vet high pitched. It’s about 5khz

I didn't think of it that way. I notice 35-45mph. Probably when both are running. Glad it's really quiet so high speeds or radio can drown it out.
