I have the gator sfx and it’s fantastic, easy to clean and very little water gets in if any at alI. didn’t even use the seal that they sent with the cover. Beat part of all is that it was only 250 bux.

Ok, the last truck I owned didn't even have a tailgate anymore, it rusted off. So what is the obsession with tonneau covers, every truck I see going down the street has one & it not hauling anything, nearly everyone I have talked to that has one says it's a pain everytime they have to haul something, but like the looks of it when not hauling, what am I missing? I am not planning on getting one, my vehicles are always garaged.
This is one of the reasons went with the Extang 2.0 Tri-fold. Just 2 bolts near the cab, the back two are spring loaded. There are so many choices it's up to you. The one I ordered sits higher, not flushed with the top rail. It also has one of the highest weight load on top in case of 2 feet of heavy wet snow. There are solid reasons for a soft, mostly price but some do stretch out with time and flap a little. First you need to decide what is most important to you. Looks and flushness with the top rail, ease of removal, etc.

PS. After asking for a discount from tonneaucovered.com it was $794 shipped and no tax. Arrived a little over a week later with Christmas and New Years in there. Guessing 50% chance the truck arrives in August. Perhaps was too excited and ordered a bit early.

I have the Ford REV roll up.... I like it, no complaints. True, it's not waterproof, but this is a cover over the bed of the truck... I'm not expecting it to be. What I do expect is a cover easy to unroll/ open and secure. This does both. I installed mine and had no problems. Very solid when in place. I have no concerns having tools in the bed if I stop somewhere.

Looks great! I like that it's seamless when covering the bed.

Just got my bakflip g2 installed today. Early impressions are great but I’m sure I’ll need a few weeks of driving before I can really evaluate

I have not owned a truck in a couple of decades. I will need a cover to keep mountain biking gear dry and out of sight. I park in a garage overnight and snow load should not be an issue.

I think I want a roll-up cover. Do I need a hard cover or is a soft cover enough? Looking at the Truxedo Pro x15. I like the matte finish and low profile design.
2 things to consider before buying. First how secure do you need the bed to be with that tonneau cover on? Secondly how often if any do you need full access to the bed when you have the cover opened?

Depending your needs will determine if you need a hard tonneau cover. Whether you want one anyways is another issue.

Me personally I have a soft roll up Truxedo Truxport cover I paid ~$309 before tax. If I need to secure anything it goes in the back seat and doors get locked. I like the idea it is insecure so anyone wanting to peak into the bed just needs to detach the velcro sides instead of cutting it and ruining the vinyl. Sometimes it is not the theft but the damage a thief does that costs more. I also have to have full access to the bed and I can roll it back and get that without impeding my view out the back window. Basically I never have to take it off for any usage reasons.

I have an extra one of these if someone in the west Tennessee area is interested.

Just my 2 cents.. I have a First Edition that came with the soft folding cover. It works and is very easy to fold/remove. I am however not a fan of the stretching that is already happening. At highway speeds it certainly is "inflated". I don't believe this one has adjustable tension but I could be wrong. Ultimately I feel that this one is just a cheap $200 cover.

I think I will replace it with a hard rolling cover to have full bed access without removal. I had a Weathertech hard folding cover on my F150 that I could remove and place in the bed if necessary but the Maverick box is slightly wider than it is long.

Still a minor issue for a great truck.

In what way is it a pain?

A tonneau essentially turns a truck bed into a very large traditional trunk, protecting from the elements, from dirt/debris/leaves, from light stuff flying out, and from casual theft.

For example, I recently picked up relatives from the airport and we tossed their suitcases in the back. The tonneau didn't have to be touched. Since the bed was always covered since I last washed it, it was nice and clean and so their luggage stayed clean and didn't have pollen and other dirt in there, and it wasn't a problem that it was sprinkling outside or that we decided to stop by Fadis Mediterranean food on the way back because the suitcases were secure.

The only time you really have to fold up the tonneau is when you're hauling really tall items, which isn't too often.

Different tonneaus have different pros and cons. The soft tonneaus are the lightest and least expensive, but they are less theft proof and can take more time to get tight on the velcro if they are rollup type. Trifolds are heavier but more durable and theft resistant but folded up you lose rear visibility. Retracting hard tonneaus are super convenient but can need occasional maintenance and because they roll up into a box can rob about a foot of bed space retracted. Then there are hybrid tonneaus that you can either tri-fold up or completely remove quickly with quick-release lever, so all kinds of options. You can read about all the different types and decide what is for you, but the before-mentioned reasons is why they are nice.

For the sake of completeness, also accordion style.

I also used Alex Pendleton with RealTruck
I got an Undercover Ultra Flex for $825. Here's some installed photos. Easy install, doesn't touch the back window when folded up.

I'm ultra safety/security conscious, and I'd hate for someone to get my belongings as easy as cutting open a soft tonneau cover. This should keep my stuff more secure.

The whole point of having the cover is that one DOESN'T see what's in the bed, so you wouldn't know if they're "not hauling anything".
The covers are a convenience ... I can put items in the bed without fear of someone making off with them or having them fly out on the road (think safety).
You are under no obligation to get one and I'm very sure everyone in the club respects your decision not to get one. Please be kind enough to extend the same courtesy to those who have one and helpfully recommend them to others.
