Ah, the memories of the 1973 Vega. I called it a 2-stroke since it used so much oil. Fill the tank and add a quart of oil and a can of STP, every time!
I skipped the '74 Vega that my college buddy bought and got a Mustang II. Not sure who got the better deal!

@Ford Motor Company @fordvideoguy if the Maverick is not automatically on the list of vehicles to be shipped, can we at least 'opt in' to have it shipped without chips. I'd do it in a heartbeat for my Maverick. Just handle the install and the extra time as a recall. Would love it, anything to get my truck earlier without permanently sacrificing the features that have ordered.

This has been going on for a long-time, ford is one of the last to do it, I can only hope lots of people cancel their orders so I get my truck much faster, I have had my build date moved up 3 times, warning! don't get too excited when you get your build date chances are it will change. Don't need heated seats in the summer and don't every need auto stop that's what they're talking about last I heard.

Exactly. I would NOT! It's bad enough waiting for the truck in the first place. Imagine the annoyance of EVERY DAY driving a truck you know is INCOMPLETE and you know at this point, Ford has already taken your money and there is literally nothing you can do to make them get the chips to you. Sounds terrible!

I mean, in that case, I'd much rather have a COMPLETE, stripped down XL than a Lariat with no heated seats, no bedliner and no CoPilot 360. I just can't imagine paying for all those things and driving off the lot without them.

I will say this: the more you see of this "chip shortage" at Ford, the less there is to like.
The Bedliner needs a chip?!

This may help to explain the problem

I understand the issue and Ford's proposed remedy. I was just asking if there was any mention of the Maverick specifically. Because the only specific vehicle Ford has mentioned getting the after sale chip installs is the Explorer.

great, another thread where nobody will actually read the article cause they just want to be upset about something. how is this an update? this article says the same thing the last one did. absolutely no new info here. the original article said this only affected the rear temperature controls in the explorer and that the buyer would get the option to take it or wait, if they took it without the functioning controls, they got a discount and the eventual module installed for free

I think it's time AMERICA steps up and starts building these chips, WE DONT NEED CHINA, we need to start supplying our companies with AMERICAN made chips and this issue would be solved
Except we do need china for the rare earth metals that are not present in US soil. That is why most of the chips in the world are produced there. They have the raw materials that we do not. Plus, our workers want to make more than $1.00 an hour, so we would be paying 10 times more for labor on top of buying the expensive raw materials. The whole thing is not as easy as "we don't need China"

I have seen no articles that mention Mavericks being shipped without all their functions intact.

Ford will sell partially built vehicles awaiting chips or related components that control non-safety critical features, it told dealers today.

Dealers will get the missing chips within 1 year to install on the already-sold vehicles, Ford said.

news story:

DETROIT – Amid an ongoing chip shortage, Ford is reportedly planning to ship and sell vehicles without certain non-critical chips as the automaker deals with a pile of unfinished vehicles.

Automotive News reports that Ford told dealerships on Saturday that they plan to sell vehicles without chips for some non-safety features, with plans to install them in the already-sold cars within a year.

Ford, like other automakers, has been dealing with a shortage of semiconductor microchips, and have a growing inventory of vehicles waiting for chips.

Ford isn’t the first to eliminate some chip-powered features. GM temporarily dropped heated seats in some models earlier this year.
Fine with me just build my XLT Hybrid
