Am I the only one happy about this? I've been limping my current car along since August. I could live without heated seats and would prefer my truck to not be sitting in the Mexican desert.

I'm very happy about this. I'll take it in a skinny minute.

Ok so I just read threw the thread and am kinda surprised that no one has said or might be thinking of this..
Ok so u put down a deposit for ur mav order but at the time ur truck arrives or before u can back out and receive ur deposit back.. So in a sence u are not locked into a sale of the vehicle... Does anybody not think ford can possibly do the same...
Ur dealer called and says hay ford says they are going to start/ or schedule ur order, but it can be possibly missing some chips that run 360 or heated seats( and more) .. It will not affect the drive ability/safety of the vehicle...
Does anybody think this can be, if u choose to pass on a functionable vehicle missing a few options that ur order can be canceled on ford's part or u get bummed to the back of the line to make way for others..
And if people try to say I received a vehicle with out options. Like adaptive cruise, 360, heated seats, ect.. Those are not things people needed to drive a vehicle for what, since cars were invented..

Im sure the “chips” are end items that ford could easily install. Should be complete plug and play components. Dealers are not going to get a box of just microelectronic chips to install.
See, what I'm wondering about is how complete "plug and play components" are. It's not hard to install loose chips if you've already taken the necessary steps- Apple used to sell a floppy drive kit for two Mac models that included new ROMs and a new floppy controller. Just yank out the old ones with a chip puller and press the new ones into the sockets.

Also, depending on how un- assembled these controllers are, it could be a gold mine for people in ten to fifteen years looking for aftermarket controllers when the supplies of OEM ones are exhausted. Controllers will fail sooner or later, and nobody ever makes enough spares.

Let's say this is true, selling vehicles today that need "chips" installed later to complete build specs. As more are built more and more "chips" will become unavailable. Where does it end and good luck getting all the "chips" at one time or is it return multiple times after each "chip" becomes available. Have you tried to make an appointment for service recently, many dealerships are a month or more behind on appointments due to parts and techs available?

Wonder how my insurance company will price an incomplete vehicle? Cant wait to hear about the claim experience for a damaged/totaled partially built Maverick.
they'd never know about it - it's like any vehicle when some feature doesn't work - if the vehicle it totaled they never know that your passenger side window motor was non functional or your power sunroof didn't leak. These seem to be chips for auxiliary features, not something major like an a/c or heater unit, the value of the vehichle isnt' gonig to change that much . Though....Ford would technically 'owe you' the chips when they come in, so maybe you could sell them on ebay if/when they give them to you. That'd be an interesting situation...

My concern with this, "dealer will install within a year", is sorta like promises promises, whats to guarantee that will happen, Ford's got all your money up front but might not be in any hurry to complete their "promise", and are the chips going to be included in the night mare cluster of their allocation process? To me it seems the Customer is going to be the loser. Just my thought...

This is not the first time this has been considered. See the Detroit Free Press article from July 2021 below which describes Ford considering the same idea. But it seems they didn’t follow through in any significant way last time, so unclear if they are now going to do it, or just pondering the thought again.

https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2021/07/19/ford-chip-shortage-vehicles/8013003002/

BTW, no one installs chips in vehicles, they install assembled modules that contain chips and other parts. So any rework would only consist of installing missing modules in an existing wiring harness, perhaps with some enabling configuration updates.

And it goes without saying, Ford cannot sell a vehicle without the core powertrain, body and safety or compliance related modules (including the instrument panel) otherwise it cannot be driven.
yeah but you know how wiring harnesses are - imagine some module way up there on the harness under the dash and them having to remove the dash to get to it, good luck getting a non damaged dash re-installed properly....

If this happens and it is "optional", it would be big improvement over our choice now: drop constraint items and never see them again and MAYBE we will get a build date. At least those in need of a vehicle as soon as possible, would have an option. I would drop some items to receive them later. 360 option is not one. I firmly believe there really is a "blind spot" and consider this a safety feature. If Ford decides this is a non-safety item, they may open themselves to liability problems if accidents occur before installation.

I'm purchasing a Maverick out of loyalty to Ford for treating me right with my current car.

I currently drive a 2012 Ford focus. When I bought it, I was happy that Ford was not bailed out like the other two bigs in Detroit. I purchased an extended warranty. There was a gas tank seal issue. I went to the dealership to get it fixed (under warranty, of course). Well, turns out it's not part of the drive train, so it wasn't covered. Last time I purchase an extended warranty.

That said about 3 months after I had it fixed, Ford issued a recall for the same issue. Bummer right, well, they reimbursed me for the work that I had previously paid for because it was the issue in the recall.

There was another recall after the fact regarding for locks. Dropped my car off at the dealership. "Here's the keys to your loaner, see you in a week."

They called back this year to do a check up on the locks and sent a person to my house to complete the check up.

All car companies issue recalls. All car companies make some cars that are lemons. I came back to Ford because in my past experience, they did me right. I fully realize that YMMV (literally, *sigh*, sorry, that was bad), but if they do me right on the Maverick like they did on my Focus, I'll continue to be a satisfied customer.

For one it is a add on... Not a required safety feature on a vehicle.. And I'd assume the first thing their lawyer will ask is have u not been able to turn ur head and look since we'll birth

So if they do this, we should only have to pay for the options we are getting right? Partial truck means partial payments yes? 🤣
