Totaling cars or trucks by insurance companies is a scam. Any vehicle can be fixed. Depending on your insurance you can even keep your totaled car if you own it.
Classic car insurance has stated value insurance so you can keep your car if it is “totaled.” Just depends how much you want to spend to fix it above the value.

A totaled car by definition isn't repairable, OR it costs more to repair than what it's worth.

If the other insurance company hassles you, remind them how much your neck hurts. That's what I had to do years ago when my Karmann Ghia was totalled.
If they want to total it, ask them how much it would cost you to buy it back from them.

If the only damage is the 2 doors on the drivers side then it is not totaled. If parts need to be ordered and you can drive it like it is I would have them order the parts and drive your Maverick until parts come it to fix it.
Chances are considering where the damage is there could be a bent frame. They would total it in that case, i would take it to a Ford Dealer that has a body shop so that all parts are genuine. You have the right to take it to any shop you want. You wouldn’t take your sick child to 7/11 to pull out a baby tooth, i once had a 6 month old Prius “c” that was taken to a mom and pop shop. The rain leaked in after six months cause it wasn’t repaired correctly luckily some little old lady hit it about a week later and put it out of its misery.

I really appreciate everyone's input in this situation. Only time will tell what is actually going to happen. All the advice and perspective on here helped me gather my thoughts and guide me towards what to do/expect. Thank you.

Really sorry to hear that happened but oddly enough it's how I came to be a Maverick owner. I had a Ridgeline that was totalled about 6 weeks ago. I got t-boned and it was the other drivers fault. It's interesting to hear so many folks that would want to fix even if it was deemed totalled. I absolutely wanted mine to be totalled because I knew the resale value would be destroyed plus body shops around here are booked for months. I ended up putting the claim through my insurance as others have advised. I knew they would give me a better pay out and had confidence they would take better care of me. I had to fight for the rental because there is a clause that if it's deemed totalled the coverage goes from 30 days to 7. I guess they want to encourage people to go get a car and not just spend the money. I wrote a very clear explanation of what should be obvious about the availability of vehicles, how I had signed papers and was just waiting for delivery. Ended up being delivered on the 31st day so the whole thing ended up costing me 60 bucks, my monthly payment went down $100 and my insurance went down $100. I made out well and was fortunate to find a Maverick that wasn't spoken for and was being delivered in 4 weeks. my only advice is go through your insurance and let them fight for the money from the other company. It should not affect your rates as it wasn't your fault. I hope the process goes well for you and you are made whole.

So here is the sad truth ladies and gentlemen, March 2, 2022 I was stuck by another vehicle. They had insurance, so I won't have to pay cor anything (hopefully). I do have a few concerns and would like your input.

My Maverick is 2022 XLT awd ecoboost. Added features include FX4, and sunroof. I tinted my windows, added db drive 10" substation (Amp and sub in one), and my blinkers from yellow to led white switchbacks. Nothing crazy custom but it's mine. Ordered July 10th 2021, delivered Oct 21st 2021, so I've had for a bit. Love it!! If any of you who happen to still waiting for yours I would love give you any feed back, but here are my co concerns about my situation.

1. If I do need replacement parts, would there be any parts available from Ford in order to get them??

2. Would you take a check from the insurance company and get it fixed at a mom & pop body shop?? Possibly pocketing any left over dinero?Dinero??

3. What are the chances of them just totalling it due to lack of available parts?? If so, would you go back and order another Maverick/buy something else?

4. Just leave it and drive it around as is??

Idk I have so many mixed emotions your opinions would definitely help. Thanks.

The first thing I would do is go the the CARVANA and other we buy car websites and document your vin, mileage and value without the accident. You will need this Data if they try to total. That way you should be able to afford a replacement.

So sorry for the damage! Glad you were not hurt! I had an incident several years ago where I got sideswiped. It messed up everything from the A-pillar back. Looked a lot like some of your damage. My local body shop did a great job fixing the car in under 2 weeks. In fact that car is the one I traded in on my Maverick. You would never guess that it had been in contact. Hopefully you will have a similar experience.
Make sure you get a warranty on the body work. Don't cheap out on the repairs if you want your Mav back to where it was. And I wouldn't expect to be pocketing any "leftover" cash.
Good Luck!

Agreed. My point about waiting is just the sheer amount of time it may take for parts. There should be no limit on car rental time paid by the other insurance except for possibly their maximum coverage amount of their policy. Which doesn't alleviate the personal liability of the other party, just the insurance company. But some states have additional protection requirements. And the OP may have underinsurance coverage that could kick in too.
I had a primo RAM1500 Limited that got hit just like that by a Jeep Wrangler smashed the side in from the rear of the front wheel well to the start of the rear wheel well. I found a body shop that was well regarded and they did all the work including replacing parts with OEM parts. Repair cost was around $5500 and that was about 5 years ago. I then went after the insurance for lost vaue from having a vehicle damaged since anytime you go to sell and they run a carfax the value drops. The culprits insurance had to come up with an additional $5400 for loss value..

So good you're okay. Also good that nothing damaged requires a chip! I imagine they can get you the needed parts in a couple weeks.

We bought one of the first Honda Civic Hybrids back in 2003. When the transmission went a few years later, we discovered it would take at least a month to get a new one from Japan. That's when we bought our first Mini Cooper. On our 4th in a row, now. But we still miss our old Ford Ranger, and the Maverick (enroute now) will be a step up!

Let us know how this turns out.

The way it's worked for me is my insurance company has covered the cost of repairs less the deductible and then they go after the other party's insurance company to get reimbursed. When they get the money, which includes my deductible, they pay me back.

Get it fixed and don't play around trying to make it a profitable situation.

Were any chips damaged? Then you aren't totally hosed. Parts may not be plentiful, but they will get them, and they certainly aren't going to total the truck over that.

As said above, don't try to turn this into a money making experience, just concentrate on getting it fixed properly. You can drive it until the parts come in, then have them give you a rental for the week to 10 days it will take to get it fixed.

I would take a check from the insurance, but only after their third offer, never their first! Go find a good paint-less dent repair person and they could easily pull that out and get it looking good again. Pocket the $$$

I'd get the truck assessed for structural damage. If it's safe to drive I'd ask the Insurance company to pay me directly for the claim. I would put that money in the bank and just drive it for a year. Make sure to touch up any paint chips so it won't rust. Then next year when parts are available ( because I bet they are not available now) I'd fix it later. My logic here is that you are going to lose your truck for months and months if you send it for repair. So that's what I would do. I would eventually fix it for sure. But we are SOL with parts right now.
