I saw this indoor outdoor carpet roll at Costco today for $19.99. It’s 6 x 9 feet, mold, mildew and odor resistant. It comes in various colors.

It’s not very thick, in fact it is thin. It can be easily cut to fit the truck cargo bin to protect the painted surface.

If you have items on top of the mat the sail will not sail.

Judging by the amount of loose debris that stays in the bet of my Gen 1 Tacoma I'd say the carpet will stay in place without any trouble.

I've done a similar thing, but I always have my empty bed covered. If it weren't covered, a 2x4|6 separator across in the rear slot and a bungee attached to the floor tie-downs (though a couple small holes in the mat) up front should make it secure enough.

Can figure out something to hold it down, a good but maybe temporary protection, May be better than nothing...thank you for the heads-up sir.

I bought a horse stall mat for $50. It's about 1" thick, isn't going anywhere and when you cut it to fit the remaining piece fits the tailgate perfectly. I didn't attach it to the tailgate, I just leave it in there. If I have a long load I just lay it on the tailgate, it is heavy enough that it will stay in place under the load. Works for me ...
