So in August I order a Maverick and I get the email from Ford, until recently nothing at all. I started getting super impatient and I saw a dealer order Maverick pop up for sale at a dealership 14 miles away. So I talk to the salesman and he says that truck is a month out and Ford tracker had it getting there Feb, 18 despite its status as “in production”. I bought it there and started the loan stuff. Which got them to hold it for me. I fought with them hard to use my bank.
Fast forward 4 weeks and I just get the email that you guys talked about on this forum. It got pushed back until the 14th of March. The problem now is that since then, my original order now says “built”, and has an est arrival of March 4th. My original order was a carbon gray xlt, awd, with Lux and co-pilot. The one I agreed to buy is alto blue xlt, with fx4 and lux package and the special 17” rims.
I talked to my bank and they said we have the info and the loan won’t finalize until you sign the final paper when you pick the car up. And after getting off the phone with them the dealership called and asked me to sign one final thing for my bank. That part sounds like the bank called them and told them that I checked into it.
So what I’m asking is if it’s dishonest to back out after agreeing to buy it. They did tell me it was built and on the way and it turns out Ford tracker was right and it still says “in production” while my original customer order from another dealer is built and shipped. Should I just wait em out and buy which ever one comes up first? What would you guys do.

Buy the truck you know you'll prefer. And call the other dealer and let them sell the other truck.

I'd wait for the one I ordered because it's the way I wanted it which is exactly what we did.

I should probably also add that while I didn’t mind waiting at first some guy lost control of his truck and hit my parked SUV and totaled it. So I need this truck to come pretty soon. I can probably rent something for my days at work but that gets expensive after awhile. Plus that free until the settlement clears for now.

Forgot to mention they’re both at MSRP. Except one come with 2k more worth of options. I do like the FX4 package don’t care for the other stuff

Buy both. Sell one for 5k more than you pay for it.

Get whatever truck you want. It is not personal with the dealership. It is "just business". I ordered two trucks from two dealerships. Only to double my chances of getting sooner. I am deciding on what to do with the second one when it comes in. If I know someone who wants it I will buy it and give it to them for what I paid. I might try to flip it, or turn it over to the dealer. I have no shame in what I did or in what I will do.

Did you sign a purchase order ? If so the you are obligated for that truck. If not then you can walk away.

I ordered a second Maverick, completely different from my XL. The second Mav is a Hybrid XLT with Lux package and a number of other upgrades. I thought about selling one but I think rather sell one of my cars and keep the Hybrid.

Whether you keep or sell the second Mav, you cant lose. If you decide against the deal I'm sure the dealer would love to put your unwanted Mav into stock and mark it up a few thousand dollars.

I did the same thing and agree with you. In my case the second one got ordered 3 weeks later and is being delivered next month. The first one still doesn’t have a build date, arg!

This is the only correct answer.

Exactly what I would do! Infact I will be reserving another when ordering opens. Just look at the profit you will make as paying for the rental you need in the meantime!

Hahaha if only I could swing buying them both. Plus they’re both honest enough dealers so the one I let go will probably only sell for 2-4k above mark up 😂

Sort of surprising to read all the comments to mark up and sell the second one and then read all the threads about how awful it is for dealers to add a markup🙁
